Chandler-Gilbert CC

Is anyone out there currently enrolled in the Chandler-Gilbert nursing program? If so, how long was your wait to get in? I will be done with all my pre-req's in June and CGCC is my 1st choice. Just wondering what the outlook is as far as waiting.

Thanks!

As of today there are 1777 applicants in the MCCD Nursing Program database. These are those who have completed their prerequisites and are awaiting placement. The MCCD Nursing Program total capacity for Spring 2008 is 485. However, only 370 of those seats are generally available. The rest are held back for contract partnerships. In addition, CGC only admits to the nursing program in the Fall. You may want to pursue employment with a partner program like Banner Health. Check out the Banner website for information on the Banner Health Nurse Fellows Program. Banner employees are guaranteed an interview, and your application is not subject to the queue. Good luck.

In addition, it is rumored that some pre-reqs may be changed to co-reqs. That will increase the number of people who are qualified to submit their applications, increasing the total pool.

If you are able, you may want to accelerate the classes you have left to take. If you take them through Rio Salado, some are actually offered as accelerated courses. And most instructors will allow you to accelerate your course and finish early.

One more thing...If you haven't done so already, go ahead and start getting your fingerprint card and immunizations done. These take time to get taken care of, and getting it done ahead of time will allow you to be ready to submit your application as soon as your grades post. Don't worry about the TB test just yet, though. Read the application materials, you will see what I mean.

Thank you for the reply HJS27! Yeah, I met with the nursing advisor on Tuesday and got all that info. I have ordered my fingerprint packet and will take the NET next month. She did confirm that they are in process of making the changes to the program and that indeed some of the pre-req's may indeed become co-req's. On one hand that means I can apply earlier, on the other that is more people in the pool of applicants. I am going to apply to the Banner Nurse Fellows program, as that guarantees a spot. She did say the wait was less or nonexistent at certain colleges. Unfortunately, that means a very LONG commute to a campus further out. But, I will do what I have to. Hopefully the Banner thing works out. Thanks again for the info!

sorry a little off this subject but did the advisor happen to tell you which schools had a lower wait? my advisor at rio said she had no idea so I am unsure which to choose as my top five to increase my chances of getting in this spring. any info would help! thanks!

Kind of. She said that the colleges in the "high density" areas had the longest wait. She said that those were MCC, Chandler-Gilbert, Scottsdale and Gateway. I have heard that Glendale and Estrella have much lower wait times.

Same story here. I'll submit the provisional app in the spring and hopefully i can pass my classes and keep it in the system. I need to take the NET and get a fingerprint card as well, and I intend to do that soon. I had a TB test last year so hopefully it'll still be good.

your gonna need a new tb test

What pre-reqs are they changing to co-reqs? I was just wondering thanks for anyinformation you can give. Have a great day.

She didn't say. Also, it isn't definate. Just something the board is discussing. May not even happen. If anything changes, she said it would be in the January newsletters.

I am in the CGCC nursing program, and my advice is to wait for another program.
