ASU Post-Baccalaureate BSN 2018 - Welcome

U.S.A. Arizona

Hello!

I am a current post-bacc student at ASU. I am starting a thread for those applying to the 2018 program. Last year we had fantastic support from the 2016 class (and still have support from them today), so we are extending this help to the 2018 hopefuls as well! The feed for our class last year was an invaluable resource, so use this one to ask for advice or get answers to your"burning" questions (nursing school reference…you will see)!

Good luck to you all!

Specializes in ASU Nursing Student - May 2021.

For those of you still following this thread. I received the news from my advisor this evening.

"We have 90 applicants for this cycle's Post-Bacc Nursing program."

wow.. that makes me more nervous :(

Good luck of us all!!

Hi can anyone explain how this program works? I have a BA from asu.

So you have to already have a bachelors degree to apply. You meet that requirement! You ask have to have at least 8 of 10 critical courses completed. If you google ASU pbcnp guide you should be able to find the 2016 version, and it will list the required courses. There is a 2017 updated version but that one requires more navigating on the ASU website to find. You also have to complete several health requirements and fingerprint screening BEFORE you submit your application. The TEAS exam is used to come up with your advancement score. It is a combination of the select 8 course GPA (course GPA/4) + TEAS score (as a decimal). Once accepted into the program, it is eleven months of intensive clinical and theory study (starts in January and ends the following December). You graduate with your BSN and can sit for the NCLEX licensing exam.

Thank you for the response. Is it tje same amount of competitive as the regular bsn program?

We only had 90 applicants for 48 spots. The traditional is extremely competitive for students to try to transfer into because you are competing for leftover spots. The acceptance rate for this past summer/fall (not quite sure why it's slated summer/fall and not split up) was only 29% but it usually hovers closer to 45%. The link below can help you sort through the options if you haven't already seen it. https://nursingandhealth.asu.edu/sites/default/files/bsninformationpacket_05_17.pdf

So because you're competing for leftover spots, you don't know how many students will be direct admins for that cycle and therefore, how many spots will be available for competitive applicants (e.g. People like you). You only apply once a year for the post bacc program (September) for spring start. For traditional you have two 24 month start times: fall and spring. Additionally there is a 16 month option that starts in summer.

Hey thanks again. I'm weighing my option as to what the best route is for me.

For current students - are lectures typically uploaded online?

And any word on externship placement for immersion at Mayo/Dignity/etc?

Thanks all!

In regards to lectures being posted online, all of our classes posted the PowerPoint they taught from online. It was nice to take notes on the slides as they were being talked about. Other classes, PowerPoints AND a voice over was posted online and you were expected to watch in your own spare time and then come to class for "learning activities" which doesn't necessarily work for everyone but oh well, you do what you gotta do. I do know that it's been said that the curriculum is going through some massive changes for the next group so I'm not sure what all will stay the same.

I'm surprised at this thread! When I read the 2017 thread there were people commenting (and stressing) each day but this one has the last post on October 6th? And to add to it, they only had 48 applicants. We have about double that. Where is everybody?!?!

Does any anybody know when we should start hearing decisions? I could've sworn I read somewhere they would let people know in the beginning of November but I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly. Last year decisions were sent out Nov. 16th. You guys think we'll have to wait that long? I sure hope not. Good luck to everyone!

There's not much activity on here because most of us added ourselves to the Facebook group with the current cohort to ask questions and have them answered in a speedier manner!
