Maricopa is a place that is on the very periphery of Phoenix. It has seen enormous growth in the past 5 years - with its population growing from several thousand to the tens of thousands. Go to arizonarepublic.com and do a newspaper article search - you will find lots of articles about the growth of the region. Unfortunately, many times the schools in former small towns often do not keep up with this growth, leading to overcrowding and all the problems that are associated with that phenomenon. I personally wouldn't send my children to the schools in Maricopa. That said - go the Arizona Department of Education website and do some research. They rate the schools. I certainly wouldn't go by the opinions of a select few on this website. On the upside, the houses are fairly cheap and there is an absolute glut of properties and falling prices. On the downside, you usually get what you pay for...

The town of or the county of Maricopa? The town is at the far end of the earth not close to anything. At least a 20 minute drive to the nearest freeway (I-10). Then about a 5-10 minute drive until you encounter rush hour traffic in the morning.

Interested in Maricopa county, I would recommend Ahwatukee (not really a town of it's own, rather a suburb of the city of PHX), the actual address is Phoenix. I used to live there and love it. Avoid the West valley, ie: I-17 & Cactus, thunderbird, etc... that's where most of the crime occurs.

I guess it depends on where you would be working. If you work in the East Valley, definitely Ahwatukee, CHandler or Gilbert. If in the West Valley, North Scottsdale, Desert Hills(Phoenix), Goodyear or Avondale.

Hope this helps.

When will you be moving? There are lot of new homes being built between Tucson and Phoenix. Red rock, Queen Creek, etc...lots of places that are available.

we looked at tucson but its 40 minutes from Casa Grande as opposed to 30 minutes from Chandler

i didnt like the look of the schools in Casa Grande myself they appear over stretched and although they have improved in recent years dont appear to be doing brilliantly

we looked at some of the areas between PHX and CG but again the schools didnt appear too good really

its a bit of a hard choice to make really, you need a good school for children but dont want to be travelling miles from work when tired either

I have been driving out there every weekend lol it's 30 min. form me now & have met the nicest people and toured the schools, after much research and I love it! We are now trying to buy a home out that way. Like everyone said it's not for some, it is for us because we don't want to raise kids in Phoenix and would like to be @ least 15-20 min away from Phx. We are in Metro Phx now and hate it. I like a smaller community of people and 'homey' neighborhood. I wouls suggest Googling everything you want to know about it and take a drive one weekend; eat, get familar.

***Wow I just realized this was from 2005!!!! well hope you worked it out lol

Well one thing is for sure ..... that small-town-homey-neighborhood won't last too long. That's how Chandler used to be, now look at it.
