As a nurse, what should we care on the patient that suffers from prerenal Acute Renal Failure?

Well, we hv to ensure that patient is on the to bcom hydrated. Do we have to do any assessment on my patient beside vital signs..

Review your pathophys book. Consider nursing considerations for dehydration and ARF.

How can you tell if your patient is becoming hydrated. BP is a good one, but there are others. Urine output, skin turgor, condition of skin, pulse, assessing eyes, oral mucosa...etc.

Your #1 priority on a per-renal pt is preventing it from converting into renal.

The pre-renal phase of RF can last as little as 40 minutes before turning into renal failure/ATN/actual renal damage.

Hydrate, increase BP, look for signs of bleeding or low blood volume, etc.

Look to treat the initial underlying cause before your pt requires HD.
