After this weekend's terrible act of violence against our community in Orlando Fl, it would be nice to open a dialogue for support and discussion. Feeling a little fragile today for the loss of our brothers and sisters and surprised to see no reference to it on this board today.

Speaking from experience, after terrible, horrible, heartbreaking ordeals like Pulse, many of our BGLT brothers and sisters lay low in fear and shock.
I'm a purple girl - my heart goes out to ALL of the BGLT community.
Welcome. This tragedy is inspiring me to be louder and more outspoken than ever. Silence = death.

You've posted in the General section, where the moderators try to keep posts nursing-related. There is a Breakroom section (blue) where social topics are more likely to be found.

I'm not gay, but I'm human. This was a crime against humanity. My heart is broken, and my heart goes out to the gay community, and all the families of the dead and injured.
But if we're all nurses here, and some are gay, why can't we post here? I see many kinds of things discussed here. Surely, after this awful act of hate and segregation you won't delegate us to another board? Surely, especially today, you could let us talk among ourselves? How is the Stanford Rape about nurses?
Soooo not trying to start anything and I am not a moderator. I was just letting you know of another section where you might look for posts.

For me, it's simply because I am afraid by posting something, it might be seen as misappropriating emotions that, as a privileged white heterosexual, I don't want to do.
I am grieving for the LGBTQ and Orlando communities.

In the past, AN has left news of a horrific disaster on the nursing side of AN - we cont to strive to be a site for ALL nurses.
We do deeply grieve the loss of so many lives.

I am an ally, and these events have made me heartsick. Praying for healing for the wounded and comfort for the families and friends of the dead.

I still find it hard to think about without wanting to cry. Such a senseless loss of innocent lives.
There is a thread over on blue discussing it. It's also been touched on in the daily threads over there as well.
Florida mass murder
I'm pretty sure it's no secret here, but I'm part of the B in LGBT. Local organizations have planned vigils, and there was one last night in the city square. There's also talk of beefing up security for the local pride event.

I cannot imagine the horror of those in the nightclub when the reality of the situation hit home. I cannot believe the last words texted to a mother looking for her son......."I love you Mommy.......I think I'm going to die"
I cannot imaging the trauma center just minuets down the road.....a very busy level one trauma center....when the words crackled over the ding of the usual bedlam "MASS CASUALTY. SHOTS FIRED. UNKNOWN INJURED" when they all know that nightclub when it is full.
49 DEAD 50+ INJURED WTH????? How can this be?
My cousin was finally able to marry her partner of 22 years. I thought we were past this.....as my daughter marched in gay pride in support of her friends at her college in the Gay-Straight alliance. I admire her convictions. Now I fear for her life. I cannot believe I had to have another one of those..."KEEP YOUR WITS ABOUT YOU AT ALL TIMES!....Oh Mom...." Sigh....but she is young. She is kind. I love her so.
Today I pray for the dead and their families. I pray for the injured and their families
I pray for the first responders, police, nurses, doctors and medical personnel who despite personal danger and grief are on the front lines doing their best for those in danger. I am thankful they were all about to go home so they may fight another day.
I pray for Christine Gimme who was killed just hours before the massacre at a meet and greet for her fans.
Today.....my heart hurts.
