April 2008 NCLEX test takers, COME ON IN!

Per the request of janina08 ;) I've started the April NCLEX takers support group. When do you take it? What are you using to study? Would anyone like to review any of the systems/meds that he/she feels weakest on? Let's keep each other in our prayers and good thoughts as we go through one of the biggest experiences of our lives. :) :nurse:

hey guys i just want to say that i passed!! im so happy!! i just checked the website 2 minutes ago and im still shaking!! this has to be the best feeling in the world.. its like the whole world is off my shoulders :) and to everyone whos about to take it, god bless! u can do all things thru christ!

I PASSED! I PASSED! I PASSED! I just checked the Florida Board of Nursing and I saw my name and my license number! Praise be to GOD I am an official LPN and now I am on to my RN!

Congrats to those who have passed and those who are about to pass and those who waiting, Weeping may enduring for a night but joy comes in the morning!

QUESTION: The nurse cares of a client one day after a thoracotomy. nursing actions listed on the plan of care include turn, cough and deep breath q2h. The nurse understands that the purpose of these nursing actions includes w/c of the ff:

1 promote ventilation and prevent respiratory acidosis

2 increase oxygen and removal of secretions

3 increase pH and facilitate balance of bicarbonate

4 prevent resp alkalosis by increasing oxygen

What's your answer to this Kaplan question?

study kaplan. i would primarily focus on how diseases are transmitted (i.e. droplet precautions, standard precautions, airborne precautions, etc) and what is necessary to wear when you are assisting these patients (i.e. gown, gloves, mask). kaplan spends almost an entire section reviewing the basics on that stuff.

i've done a ton of kaplan questions, and there seems to be quite a bit covered on that topic...so don't just skim over it...i'm sure it's covered a great deal for a reason.

oh, also chapter 16 covers it (pretty basically) in saunders' comprehensive review book ed. 4 (which is awsome)

thank you for the tips..i only have the saunder's 3rd ed..i guess i'll go to the bookstore to check the kaplan book and saunder's 4th ed...

when you say respiratory precaution, does that include airborne and droplet? and the only protective equipment that you need is mask?

Congratulationsssssssss Chichi & Supernurse.You did it! Praise be to God and to you guys, coz u two worked hard for it. So pat yourself and celebrate your belssing. It must feel so relieved to have it off your back. As for me, I just got back from the testing center. The feeling I have is, I just want to sit down, curl up and cry. I don't know exactly what number it stopped at. But, I prayed and said to God that even if it takes 250 questions, I'm willing to sit through the whole amount of questions, but please God, let me pass this time. The questions I have a feeling stopped around 70's-80's, not exactly sure, coz I didn't look at the question number the whole time I was there. But I am 100% sure of two questions I got wrong, coz after coming out of the test center, I checked -those 2 were SATA question. Those 2 I am very sure, I got wrong, now about the other ones, I don't even know. Whole way back from the test center on the road, I was feeling bad. One medication, I wasn't even sure what it was! I think I got in the following manner:

5-6 SATA

5-6 Calculations (Guys please pay very attention to if it is mcg or mg or LB or KG or what it is - while practicing right now and during ur exam)

Quite a few Priority (Would you count, what would you do next?; What's nurses's Immediate action;? etc is it considered priority or plain question?)

Lots of infection control (I have a feeling I did bad here)

No triage questions as in disaster ones

No fill in the blanks except for the math calculation ones

No drag and drop

I mean I was ready for 250 questions, if it is that's how many it would take for me to pass :(. The computer didn't even give me 90 questions I think. I was just doing the questions and next I know, the screen is blue. Either I passed or the computer thought this girl is dumb. I just have mixed emotions right now. I want to yell, cry. But I prayed throughout the exam, before the exam and while coming home. That's the only hope I've got :(. And I know all of you have been praying a lot for me and all of us. It means a lot. Thank you so much.

Sorry, my post must have been downer. I don't want to spread donwness for the test takers who are sitting for their exam tomorrow and in the coming days. Infection control, please do go through it properly and not just scan it ( KNow which diseases are droplet, or contact or airborne). I didn't get very many med questions (maybe 5-6). I kept getting peds. Good luck to everyone who'll be testing. Please study hard, even when u don't feel like studying. God bless.

P.s. Icy, I knew u were testing today also. So everytime, I prayed for me during exam, I said a prayer for u also. But, right now I just feel very very horrible.

well...i don't wanna get your hopes up too high...but it sounds like you passed! So, give yourself a bit of a break...it seems WELL DESERVED!
