Applying for RN/RPh License in Canada

Hi everyone! I am a registered nurse. My husband is a registered nurse and pharmacist. We will be submitting our application for the FSW this week and I'm thinking of what province we will be going to. Any thoughts?

We are thinking of which province is better for internationally educated nurses like us. We are hoping to apply for a license to practice our profession (me: as a nurse, him: as a pharmacist/nurse)...

Really you need to decide which province you wish to live and work in. Canada is a huge country and things vary from sea to mountains. A lot will depend on what you want from your life and what you need

We've considered settling in Calgary, Alberta as what our agency has advised to us. However, I have just found out earlier that CRNE will only be up to this year and on January 2015, the NCLEX-RN will replace the CRNE. My husband passed the NCLEXRN last 2009. Will he be able to use it there? That's really going to be a big factor in the province that we're considering. I've tried browsing thru CARNA website but I didn't find any information regarding NCLEX RN exams taken before January 2015.

Let's see, Alberta, BC, and Ontario are having employment and funding issues. So not a good choice.

The Government of Manitoba still offers relocation assistance for nurses who come to the province to work. Lots of job openings for RNs and LPNs here but there are some things to consider though, including the weather.

According to CNO's website:

Information for applicants who have already passed the NCLEX-RN exam: In September, the College of Nurses of Ontario’s Council will consider whether to accept successful NCLEX-RN exam writes going back to 1982. Before Council makes this decision, you may be eligible to write the CRNE exam in October. If you become eligible to write the CRNE, you have the option of registering to write it in October or to wait until Council has made its decision on the NCLEX.

Manitoba isn't to everyone's tastes. At work I know six nurses who left there.

Our agency advised Calgary, Alberta to us because she.can arrange for landing assistance with her previous clients to help us when we get there.

How about Manitoba or Saskatchewan or Newfoundland? Will.nursing jobs be still tough to find?

I am also a RN from the Philippines and until now I am still processing my nursing assessments. It is difficult to look for a full time nursing job especially for newcomers. Most of the jobs are "casuals", meaning you don't get to have specific hours to work in a week. Also, nurses works in different settings unlike in our country which most of our graduates prefer hospital based practice. It is tough to find jobs anywhere, what you need to think about is the quality of life you wanted to have since weather must be included in your deciding factor. That being said..be ready to upgrade because our BSN is considered as a 2-3 year college degree here.
