Applying for RN license in CA...need some advice!

Hello everyone!

I have a little dilemma. I am graduating in May and currently applying for my license to practice in California for the first time. On the application it says to report all convictions even if they have been expunged from your record. Well two years ago I was convicted for Illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor in the state of Indiana, which is where I'm from...I was 19 at the time...I am now 21. I did a diversion program and had it expunged from my record. I am still going to report it on the application...I have a letter typed out explaining everything along with copies of the court documents. I was just wondering if you think they would deny me from getting my license because of this. Also, how much longer do you think it will take before I hear anything from them because I heard it takes much longer to get your paperwork back from California.

Please help me! All advice is appreciated!

when i was in nsg school and we were getting all our paperwork together, our instructor told us to put even a speeding ticket on our form. she said it is better to be honest, and she said as long as you are honest and tell them ahead of time (before they figure it out themselves) then they probably wont hold it against you or deny you from taking boards. it took about 3 weeks to get our ATT letter and then you will be on your way. GOOD LUCK!!

I graduated from Indiana and moved to Cali right after I graduated. It only took a month for me to recieve my ATT. Are you going to apply for an IP as well? And where in Cali are you moving to? Good luck with your move - it was a scary but its been really exciting!

Hi NeuroRN,

I am applying for an IP as well. I've heard from some people that it takes a while to get the paperwork back and from others that it only takes around a month so I thought I'd be safe and get one. I will be moving to the Los Angeles area working in a neuro/trauma ICU which I noticed that you work in one as well...any words of advice? Do you enjoy working there?
