Would it be strange to apply to NP school while in a new grad residency program?

Most programs will want applicants with experience. If you meet the qualifications for admission go ahead and apply if that's what you really want but most programs have "X" years of experience that is required to be considered. Good luck!
Okay, thanks. What I'm asking is, is it strange to be in an RN residency program and be applying for NP school? Since RN residency usually is prep for an RN career?

Really - is it less common than applying during senior year of BSN?

I would have to disagree with the other posts to your question. I say go for it! I know one classmate that got into an NP program right after finishing a BSN program. She had no RN work experience at the time but eventually began working as an RN and going through the NP program.
Another person I know had applied to PA school after nursing school. Got a job in an RN residency program and left during the residency to attend PA school.
So it could work...
