Applying to a Mission Trip w/ School...

The only piece I am missing is "Completion of essay stating why you want to attend and why you would be an asset to the team."

I know exactly why I want to attend, but I'm having a hard time with why I would be an asset to the team. The skills I have acquired through my job and my time in nursing school are the same as the other people that are applying. We are all individuals with many years working in the hospital, stellar grades, and great clinical feedback from instructors. I need something to help set me apart! Any ideas?

Don't think too much about it. The missions trip isn't going to turn you down because you don't have a super unique answer to the question. They want people to go and you are paying for the trip, so just give an nice, simple answer.

Example: I am so excited to go on this trip to (spread the gospel, help build a church, provide medical care, help the orphans, pray for people, share the love of God, etc.). I have been an active participant in my church for the past x years and I feel that God is calling me to go on this trip. I am mature, enthusiastic, willing to listen and learn, and skilled in communicating with others who are hurting. I think I would make an excellent addition to your team.

If I may ask, what organization are you applying through?

Well my nursing program organizes all of it and they pick who gets to go, but it is sponsored by United Methodist Volunteers in Mission in partnership with Oriental Conference of the Mexican Methodist Church. We help run a health clinical in a local church and help with devotions twice a day as well as pass out food and stuff.
