Applying for FNP with 2.83GPA

Published

Before applying I asked the admission counselors from each school if I could apply with my low GPA. They all encouraged me to but I was rejected. Some schools will tell you straight up that they don't consider GPA lower than 3.0 or 3.3. I have 3.4 for my MBA- None of the schools considers this

My experience: Georgetown- counselor said it was ok to apply that all factors will be considered not just the GPA, unfortunately, I was rejected. Called the school to talk to someone from the admission and the rep stated that my GPA was too low. Not even for conditional admission.

Personal Statement and Vidoe interview - tuition 80K

Simmons - The process was very challenging, they requested for a lot of documentation. It was a back and forth process. Very frustrating and tiring! Eventually, I was rejected. I was disappointed. I prefer to be told that I won't be accepted than to spend time on the personal statement, money and time for transcript and other items.

Personal statement - tuition is 60K plus.

A local private school accepted a copy of my transcript to review my application. I was also rejected.

It unfortunate that GPA is the main determining factor for FNP program. Some folks are great on papers but not bedside and vice versa. I celebrate those with higher GPA they worked hard for it. When I student has challenges and made an improvement on GPA they should be given a chance.

I was rejected by a lot of schools for BSN program, got accepted into AND and recently completed the BSN program. Now I teach nursing skills and simulation. Some these nurses asked me to be their mentor.

I know it may be rough and challenging to get into a program, I will not give up for I will get there. 100 may reject me, but 1 will give me a chance. With God on my side, I will finish well.

I want an online school with low tuition.

The University of Texas will accept LOW GPA with GRE

Chamberline University will accept low GPA under conditional terms

I shared my experience so that anyone with my size of shoes, won't go through what I went through with the schools mentioned above. Try and contact the school before applying. If you have any thought/suggestions or ideas, I am very open.

Janet, I read your post and I feel your disappointments. Please message me at [email protected].

I am currently enrolled in my masters (FNP track) and would like to share it to you. I had a 2.8 GPA in my BSN. You may have the chance to get accepted in this school.

Best regards.

University of Texas Arlington will put students on probation if you have a cumulative GPA of 2.77-2.99, BUT you need to take the GRE and meet their specific score requirements. Getting good scores in GRE will take you places and will increase the chance of you getting accepted in most NP schools. It shows growth of a student who wants to pursue grad school. Some schools can take students with GPA

GPA is a factor because some of the classes are very challenging and they need to know if you are going to be able to handle the coursework. Bedside experience, while valuable, does not equate with the ability to master complex theories. Undergraduate classes are really not that hard, so if you can't manage a 3.0 in classes like nursing theory and an elective, what makes you think you will be able to handle graduate pathophysiology, pharmacology and genetics? I don't mean to be harsh but you'd only be wasting your time and money to pay for the first semester only to fail out. They do give you a chance....a chance to pass your undergraduate classes with a minimum of a 3.0. Anything less kind of cheapens the NP experience in my opinion. There has to be a cut off somewhere.

I'm so sorry you're having a tough time í ½í¸• I somehow got into Georgetown with a 2.86 and I'm thriving in the program (3.49 current GPA). I don't believe an undergrad GPA means a lot but it's frustrating to see that it's holding you back. I think for me my letters of recommendation must have been stellar and I was told that my statement of purpose was better than some of the midwives I work with had submitted. I wouldn't give up but take all these no's to empower you and show schools that you are going to persevere and not take no for an answer.

Thanks for the advice and words of encouragement.
