Hello,

I have decided to retake the TEAS exam this Jan 13, 09. I passed the first time, last year, but want to increase my rank to earn more points toward the supplemental criteria imposed by my university. I've been on a wait list for two years for an ADN program, and while waiting completed all my GE to transfer to a State college BSN program. So hopefully by fall 09 I will be in one or the other!!! While I have a 4.0 GPA, I only scored 76 overall on the TEAS the first time. Since then I have taken Organic/BioChem, Statistics, etc. Algebra and Chem are what killed it last time. I scored 100 on all the reading/comprehension/Life and Natural sciences... but the averaged with others, OUCH. So here I go again...:yeah:

I have the ATI study guide already. I did a search and found the Secrets to TEAS exam by Morrison Media.

I haven't seen any feedback or comparisons on it.

So if you have used it, or have any knowledge about it, will you please post here.

Thanks a million

Student RN-- Fall 09 (????) Just waiting on my letter!! :):uhoh21::p

Honestly? I didn't think it was worth it. I'm also one to buy whatever books I can to give me an edge, but I found that one the least useful. It seems to concentrate more on test-taking strategies than anything else, and there is not a huge amount of "meat" or stuff to actually study. If you've already taken the TEAS once, you really don't need the advice in that guide.

There are a few other decent (in my opinion) study guides out there. Kaplan and I believe Cliff each put out a guide called something like "Nursing School Entrance Exams," (I have already passed all the books on to another wannabe, so I can't be more specific about the titles) and I believe I learned far more from them, as well as the ATI book which you say you already have. I did do well on the TEAS (99th percentile) if that helps your decision.

Good luck! :nurse:

Thanks-- i'll save the money. Kaplan seems to have the best rep for test prep.

I think i'll do much better this time around. Last time was close to finals and heavy class load, not to mention teen troubles at home.

Congrats on the 99th percentile. WOW. I was 98 percentile on the NLN micro exam so was pretty shocked (humbled!!) to only have scored 76 overall on the TEAS.

I'm not too worried about it though. I'm volunteering in a hospital doing direct patient care and loving it. It's only a matter of time and i'll be in a program.

Thanks again for the heads up scooter321

:yeah:

don't waste your money. It's common sense stuff you already know about general test taking strategies.

I originally bought the ATI Teas prep book for the on-line practice tests, but didn't like the study guide. I then bought the Kaplan study guide and liked it much better. I ended up studying off that book and then using the on-line practice tests from the Teas book. I scored in the 97th percentile nationally and 98th percentile for my school.

All the Morrison Media nursing entrance test-taking guides are the same. They just change the name on it from the NET to the TEAS, to the HESI or whatever. The guides are too general to be of any use. Stick with a guide written specifically for the TEAS.

I couldn't agree more. Morrison Media preys on the uninformed, but dedicated.

Took the TEAS Friday, Jan.9th. The test was a breeze. I studied the ATI TEAS Guide and a little of the Kaplan Nursing School Entrance Exam. Kaplan was a little more difficult. Time yourself with every test you take in ATI or both books. Give yourself a minute per question. If you can complete the test in a timely matter you will do well. Time seems to pass faster during the math section. It is due to some of the questions being so wordy (is that a word). I will not know my scores untl Monday or Tuesday. I took the pencil/paper exam at Kennesaw State University in GA. Good Luck to everyone!!!

I just took the TEAs yesterday. When I found out a few months ago I was going to take it, I searched for books and online help. But before I knew it, it was the week before the test and I hadn't studied/prepared at all. I was freaking out and decided to go to the Morrison Media Sample Test on their website and I was in a PANIC. Circumferences of circles, even some trig! I figured I'd just sweat through the test and do my best. Luckily, the material they have on the online test is NOTHING like what is on the test. (Mind you I didn't take the ATI online test, I'm sure that's more along the same lines.) I think Morrison makes the material much harder, and makes the sample test free, so people freak out and buy their book. Which I've heard is useless. My advice is to just stay away from Morrison... they seem to want to steer us wrong.

Bottom line... the test was pretty simple. I walked out of there relieved. Don't stress and just stay calm. It's the best thing you can do for yourself. Good Luck all!!!

On my test there was only one or two A&P question. I thought the science section was strange because it was very general. I don't understand why we have to know about rock formation for nursing.
