Anyone in Tampa, FL doing ISU's LPN to RN online program?

Published

Is anyone in Tampa, FL or surrounding areas doing ISU's LPN to RN online program? I have search this board with no success.

I would like to know about the clinical rotations. Did they find the clinical sites for you as they say they do in their advertisements? Or did you have to contact a DON at a facility in Tampa and discuss your program with them to see if you could do your clinical at their facility? If so, what facility did you use?

I have called ISU several times and spoke with different directors/counselors in the Nursing program which have all told me different answers. I have spoke with Ms. Cook several times and she has contradicted herself several times about the clinical rotations.

Before I enroll with them I would like to know about this. I already have a Bachelors degree in another field plus my LPN. If I am accepted the first classes I would have to take have clinicals.

Thanks for any replies.

First, does Florida recognize this Degree from ISU? I am gearing up to do it but cannot find where it is recognized by Fl BON. Let me know.

Thanks.

Yvonne

Yes they find the clinical sites for you. I'm doing ISU but I'm in Maryland so I can't help you with Tampa sites. They guy I have been working with is Mike Mehl but another guy (Mark something) just took over. Anyway, you decide where you want to go and give them the contact information and they do the legwork for setting up the agreement. They just set mine up for psych clinicals.

I have no idea who Ms. Cox is but I've always talked to Carol Layman, Marcia Miller and Kim Cook and they know what they are talking about so contact one of them.

hi jevvy101,

when i called i was told that fl bon only recognizes excelsior and isu for lpn to rn distance learning. the representative stated that isu was provisionally approved in the april 5-7, 2006 minute. (look under education committee title)

minutes:

http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/nursing/min_04-07-06.pdf

they are also still currently listed as an rn program school on the fl bon website too:

i would still call the fl bon just to make sure they still are approved just in case the bon has not updated their website recently.

hope this helps.

Hi chaxanmom,

Sorry my bad. It was Ms. Cook that I talked to and she did not seem really sure about clinical sites here in Tampa, FL. She stated that they were new to Tampa, FL area. I will try and contact the "Mark" guy you are talking about. Maybe he knows more about clinical sites here in Tampa, FL.

Thanks.

If they are newly approved in Florida then they probably don't have them set up there yet which is why they didn't know about specific sites. Once you are in the program *you* decide which facilities you would like to do preceptorships at and give the contact information to them then they set it up. They sites that are set up are there because students initiated agreements there. That's what starts the process.

I have a friend in Tampa who is doing the ISU LPN-BSN. She works for a USF clinic and is doing her clinicals at her practice. She also has a BA.

How long do you think it will take her to complete the program. I'm in NY and have a BA already. This is why I am asking.

I sent you an e-mail regarding your friend. I work at USF too. Let me know if you got my e-mail. Thanks.
