I was offered a job at my local med center. I have an appointment Friday for drug screen and physical. I'm not at all worried about the drug screen but I am curious what to expect for the physical. My paper work says I need to fast for 8 hours before appointment. I assume they'll be drawing blood, but why are the testing for?

I had to have a physical to get my job at a hospital thru a registry. I'm a c.n.a.I dont remember fasting for my pre employment physical BUT my doctor did have me fast for my regular physical. Fasting can help them to be able to check glucose and cholesterol levels, I think.Hth!
You're right as far as glucose and cholesterol, just couldn't for the life of me figure out why they would need those for employment. I'm a CNA too, btw :)

They sometimes test for immunities to MMR, to make sure you have your vaccines. (Or proof of the vaccs) They offer a Hep B shot, give you a TB test, offer a pertussis shot, etc. They will take your BP, listen to your heart and lungs. Nothing too invasive. Basically they just make sure you are healthy and fit to work. If you have any allergies or restrictions, they accommodate accordingly. Sometimes they fit you for an N95 mask (or they do it at orientation). Employee Health just needs to clear you for work in a nutshell.
Well now, that makes sense. Thanks for responding
