Anyone NOT taking NCLEX prep course?

Published

I am not taking Kaplan that my hospital offers because they are running the course in late Jan to early Feb and I want to take my boards in early Jan ( or as soon as I get my ATT).

I am , however, a nervous wreck. I did very well in school and scored exit ATI 99% chance of passing NCLEX. I have been doing 150 questions every day on Saunders and Lippincott discs and scoring in the 80's and low 90's each time...but still I am a nervous wreck! Plus I sure wish those discs included more priority questions, choose all that applies, etc etc...instead of straight up 4 answers. Does anyone know of a good disc or book that includes a lot of those?

Anyone else in the same boat?

I do plan on telling NO ONE when I take the exam. I dont need that pressure..haha. I will just sign up, take it, and then spread the news later when I get it ..which hopefully is good news!

The kaplan that your hospital is offering, does it include online access!! If it does, then sign up for it, even if the class work is after you take the test. Kaplan has the best priority questions in their q-bank and the last couple of tests (5,6 and 7).

No it doesn't :( I do have the Kaplan book and disc....haven't used it yet...is it good?

Not me. I didn't take one for my LPN boards and won't do one for my RN boards either, unless I flunk then I will, knock wood/antijinx.

Only 4 out of 23 of us are taking Kaplan. I too got 99% on ATI and am just using Saunders. I did fine with LPN NCLEX last year so I think I'll be ok. I am not looking at a book until New years, then I'll buckle down with the book and CD. My brain needs a rest!

Hi I just graduated as well and I registered for Kaplan courses. I don't mind taking NCLEX later. I'd rather be sure I pass it. Why you want to take it so early? You want to work right away?

I NEED to work and I am hired into the NICU and my manager there said I had to pass NCLEX first.

Honestly I think I will be fine...just freaking out like I do before every exam.

I'm not taking a prep course...too expensive!

I'm going to keep doing my Saunders and I have access to the ATI tests so that will have to be enough.

No kaplan for me either. My tuition covered ATI and I am using Saunders as well as some other NCLEX books. Good luck!

Not taking a review either. I too had a 99% predictability on the ATI. My instructor pulled me aside and told me that I ought not waste my $. Basically said there is no way I would fail. Now I'm sure how much I believe her BUT I don't want to spend the $500 and miss four days of work so that's that. I test 1/23.

Best of luck to all.

I won't be taking one. Fortunately, my school gave us practice NCLEX questions all through the program, so I feel really well prepared. We've done, literally, about 5000 questions already. Probably more. And our instructors made packets of study material and questions to work on during each semester, so I will be studying all of that prior to the NCLEX exam.

I didn't take a prep class, although a friend of mine took one offered by a local prof and shared tips from the class with me. Aside from that, I mostly used Saunders' Comprehensive Review and basically just did step 1 of Suzanne's plan (I didn't have time to do the rest of it). After I went through the whole book, I did exams on the CD (100 questions a piece) and consistently got 83-86% on those in various subject areas. Saunders does give you select all that apply and prioritization type questions on the CD and in the book, by the way.

And I passed with 75 questions. :)

Good luck to you!
