Anyone know what's going on at Brookhaven?

Published

I read on their website that they are closing down Mountain View and those students will be delayed until Fall of 2009. Also, Brookhaven's acceptance went from 40 to 30. Does anyone know how long this is supposed to go on? I was planning on applying to Brookhaven in Jan 09.

Also, anyone know what the acceptance scores have been?

I'm not applying to Brookhaven's program (I'm doing El Centro) but from what I heard it was because they do not have enough faculty to teach. :( I'm not sure how long it will be but I did hear that Brookhaven was getting some new instructors so they may move the number back up from 30 to 40 for the Brookhaven Spring 09 class.

Any new regarding this? It's the first I've heard!!! I'm finishing up my last two classes I can possibly take before the actual program.

Have you even started the pre-req's yet? If not, then by the time you finish those, maybe everything will be back to normal with the program.

I am concerned about having done everything I've need non-stop since Fall '06 semester and now finding out maybe I'll be delayed longer!!! Actually, I'll be :banghead:

I havent heard much. I have taken all the prereqs for North Lake/ El Centro and am taking chem this summer so I can apply for both in the spring.

I did hear they had 2 people with a 2.5gpa apply and get in...so Im not to sure what to think

What I've heard from the one's accepted today so far, scores were around 31-34 points. Now, that's just from the two people I heard from today. I'm curious about this myself! I'll be finished with all my classes this Summer, and plan on applying in August. I'm going to retake my HESI to try to score higher than an 84 that I made this time for more points. Also, they don't require speech any longer, so I'm assuming we lose the point for that. I hope they don't keep changing the program. I applied this last time for the 3 extra points. What do we do once we've finished all the classes and they've narrowed the pool down this low? Just sit and wait? Ugh!!

The gpa really isn't a determining factor from what I've heard. Sure, it helps get you 1.5 or whatever extra points with a 4.0-but on a point scale like DCCCD uses, you could have a 2.5 gpa and score 90 on the HESI and someone else have a 4.0 and score an 85, and the 2.5 gpa wins as far as points go.

are you sure about speech? I saw they are no longer requiring medical spanish. They are taking it as a substitution for the new fine art requirement if you have already taken the course.

Well.. I just looked it up, you are correct:

"Beginning with the Summer 2008, Speech 1311 and Spanish 1300 are no longer requirements of the Brookhaven College Nursing Program. A fine arts elective is required and Spanish, if selected, will be accepted as that elective. There is no time limit on the science courses."

I know, it's just not fair!! I took the med. spanish, and just struggled though cultural and political persuasive speeches this semester because we still were required to take it at the beginning of Spring semester!!!

what?!? Oh man! I was enrolled in Chemistry, because mine was 5+ years old, AND speech! Of course, I dropped out of Brookhaven and chose to get my LVN at DNI, but still! Maybe I'll be ahead of the game if they ever do a bridge program...

Brookhaven has a bridge program currently! I thought about becoming an LVN at first, then I saw the nursing program at Brookhaven which was pitched as accellerated. It really isn't bad...if you can wait to get accepted before needing an income! But, the salary really makes up for it. Were you going to take speech this semester???

no. i was pretty much done with taking "college classes" til i get closer to my LVN, next January. I think I'm pretty well set; already have a Bachelor's. I honestly didn't know they had a bridge program. But I will need a program that still allows me to work, which is why I went the LVN route. Any evening bridge programs in DFW?
