Hi,
I'm still in nursing school but I was trying to get a basic *idea* of what nurses in the south bay make in cities like San Jose etc. My particular interest is Santa Clara Valley Medical Center because I will probably end up working there. Anyone have a clue what new grads can be estimated to start off with?
On that note, I hear Kaiser pays more (naturally since they're not a county hopsital like VMC). My question is, approx. how much more than VMC for a new nurse?
That being said.... I'm wondering about El Camino Hospital in mountain View. I can't figure out if it's private or a community hosptial; nevertheless, I'm guessing people make more there...
Any ideas/comments would greatly be appreicated! thanks

Easiest way is to just contact the facilities, rates are always changing.

Hi Azzurra,
In the SF Bay Area, the going rates for new grad RNs is $32 to $38/hr. This does not include the differential for weekends and nights (10% to 20% on top of the going rates). Here's info on El Camino Hospital (in Mtn View, CA):
http://www.elcaminohospital.org/body.cfm?id=15&oTopID=15
El Camino Hospital is a not-for-profit hospital in Mountain View, California, located on a 41-acre campus in the heart of Silicon Valley. Consistently ranked as a leading hospital in the area, El Camino Hospital recently received the highest ranking in the Patients' Evaluation of Performance in California survey. The hospital has received national recognition for several pioneering programs, in the areas of, cardiac treatment, radiation oncology and maternity. For more than 42 years, El Camino Hospital has been distinguished by its high caliber staff and affiliated physicians, comprehensive and innovative services and a long history of responding to the needs of the community it serves.
I volunteered there and enjoyed working with the staff and patients. Hope that helps!

Look like not many hospitals still doing that. Even Kaiser changed its policy I heard.
I don't know anything about green cards.
