Hi, I'm new and I am thinking about going back to school to get my MSN to be a Clinical Nurse Leader, my bachlors degree was in an unrelated field. But I'm not exactly sure what the difference is between Clinical Nurse Leader and a RN? Also whats a starting wage for a CNL? Any info would be great, thanks ^^Kellee^^
I am strongly considering a CNL track masters. I will probably start sometime in 2011. I work for a VA facility where the role is in the implementation phase throughout the organization. If you want to work as a CNL, I would start looking at the VA, or find other hospital systems that are using them.
I think it is unfortunate that the role came to be and then the economic market turned. I think that the role would have possibly had better reception if hospitals weren't trying to cut corners everywhere. Mid-level nursing (as opposed to staff, which has also seen some cuts, and upper-level management) has seen a lot of cuts all over the country.
I am looking for a CNL who is willing to answer an 8 question interview for my CMU CNL course Professional Roles. Do you know anyone who might be willing. It is a relatively simple questionaire. Here are the questions:
1. What is your title and role in the organization? How long have you been in this role?
2. What did your educational program entail? Length, clinical hours etc.
3. Do you feel that your education prepared you adequately for your role? If not what was missing needed more of, etc.
4. Describe a typical day in your role.
5. Are you supported in your role by the organization?
6. What are your frustrations and struggles with the role?
7. I you could design your role differently, how would you do it?
8. Do you believe you contribute to the organization in a unique way because of your education and role?

I also want to comment that I look at alot of websites for nursing jobs and you can type in Clinical Nurse Leader and all kinds of jobs pop up. I hope this provides some positive feedback for people going into this field.
