Anyone heard of Nurseloop?

Published

I'm in California and the other day a staffing company "hired me." While I did apply using a job engine, the way they reached out to me and offered me a position seemed a little unusual. There was no interview or background screening questions. I can't find any reviews of the company online. Does anyone have experience with them and can vouch that they are a legitimate company? I feel weird sending in my credentials without knowing anything about them.

I would not send anything to them. Definitely major red flags if they hired you w/o even speaking with you. And if you can't find info. about them on indeed or glassdoor or similar..are the more reason to avoid them.

Thanks, that's kind of what I'm thinking too. Indeed keeps advertising them but it's just weird to not have any reviews. They do have a website but my interaction with the recruiter/HR left me feeling kind of weird.

I am also wondering about Nurseloop, the app shows hospitals looking for someone to come on for a day, near me. But I am concerned that they have few reviews, no comments on facebook... I don't want to give them my bank information for the same day payment but I love the idea of choosing the days I work because my schedule is nuts.

Okay so I’m a new grad lvn in Los Angeles area and I’ve been seeing them on indeed advertising for open positions for CNA/lvns/RN offering 32 for lvns and that they are a new registry company. I did my research and yes they are new. They are originally from the Philippines but made a subsidiary called nurseloop USA. They are trying to expand in the USA and they are new to the Los Angeles area.

I applied through indeed and a recruiter/ personal assistant named Jinkie reached out through phone interview and helped me out and made me download the app to submit my on boarding credentials. They are legit. HOWEVER, I warn you they suck and possible one of the worse registry company in Los Angeles market in terms of pay, booking process and the app needs better developers. Looks like a newbie programmer made this app and it’s missing the basic features of filtering options and user interfaces that makes an app easy to use for end users.

Let’s start with pros. There’s only one and it’s that the personal assistants are nice and quick on onboarding but that’s about it. Now onto the cons.

Cons: 1)pay-

The starting rate is very low for registry and there is no benefits or OT. In California, after 8 hours you are paid 1.5x and after 12 hours if you do 16 hour shifts (double shift) it’s 2x pay. I found out after signing up that you are a 1099 (independent contractor) and because of that they don’t have to pay OT. They also don’t say but as a 1099 in any field  that will mean you will have to pay self employment tax at the end of the year which is about 30% of your income). Start rate was $32, so with self employment tax it will easily put you under $25 an hour maybe $22, which regular staff lvn at a facility is paying $28-30 with benefits and OT. So please be aware unless you actually want to be a 1099. There are other registries right now currently paying $34 with OT and are w4 based (meaning you are employee) and some give benefits and you don’t pay self employment tax.

Con 2) booking process

They don’t have many facilities and even if they did, the process to book is extremely slow . They are expecting multiple nurses to apply for one shift ex. 5 nurse for one shift. And only the first one will get it and rest is on waitlist. So you’ll hardly get any shifts and they expect you to book weeks beforehand, which defeats the flexibility of being per diem . Other registries book easier and quicker. So nurseloop needs to adapt competitively if it wants to grow. Right now I can see why they aren’t growing because they are paying ridiculously low rates at a time when lvns and nurses are urgently needed and can pick up shifts anywhere so why would someone want to work with them.

Con 3) the app

They need a better developer and programmer for their app. It doesn’t let you do basic filter options for positions and location, so you have to manually scroll through 200 job listings for your job position and city. Uh ya gl to them LOL.

I instantly deleted the app after I found out about 1099 and their low rate. And their booking process is slow? Ya that’s the trifecta to definitely turn people away from using nurseloop.

This is immensely helpful information! I never did sign on with them and instead went with a position as a staff nurse at a local hospital. I guess if I feel the need to pick up PRN positions in the future I may keep them in mind or look for a different company. Thanks so much for the background info and for sharing your experience!

Your welcome! Sorry I have to correct my original response in that the self employment tax (30%) is only half of that at 15 point something.

However even paying 15% out of your own pocket, being a 1099 for any per diem is always a bad idea. Not only is it a negative having to pay more in taxes, you have to be on time documenting and paying quarterly, you have to carry your own and workers compensation if anything goes wrong. Normally a w2 registry is forced to cover all that and if a patient sues, the agency would be liable first.

Here’s an article I read recently that describes its actually illegal to classify nurses as a 1099, and that most honorable companies will pay you in w2, which is true because I work with two other registries and they pay me in w2 but still offer me OT pay and flexibility in picking up anytime with no commiting hours needed per week. I noticed recently I applied to another overly advertised  registry on indeed called “vitawerks” and it was also Philippine based USA company and they offered same $32 and 1099. I quickly turned them down.

Another recent 1099 per diem on indeed I found is “rnventory”. In their terms of service it was also scary to find them say aren’t liable if facilities can’t pay you and that while they’ll try their best to help you, they are not responsible for missing pay. Other terms they subject you to is sketchy and offloads all liability and expenses off to you. So definitely be careful if you do plan on picking up 1099 per diems!!

This "registry" is a complete and total scam. They've confirmed me for shifts one day and cancelled them the very next day or the day of my shift, not the facility, Nurseloop themselves. They owe for a two shifts that they haven't paid me for. The onboarding process was completely weird. They contacted me for months before I actually accepted a shift from them and it was at one of the worst, most roach infested places that I'm sure was not inspected before sending people in. Senior management is dismissive or available. I told them several times I was moving and they said they had facilities in the area I'm moving to only to turn around and lie when I continued to ask about requesting shifts in the area in advance. Stay away from this registry. All American pays more and Clipboard Health has way better/more facilities available.

Sounds fishy to me. Are they listed with the Better Business Bureau?
