I am under the impression that you can get your LPN on line and then go on for your RN or BSN with them? Anyone know?

No, it is the other way around. You have to go there to get your LPN, then you can go online to get your BSN.
I have talked to the school since my last post and I can do everything except my science classes online. After every quarter (starting 2 quarter) I have to go to the school for 3 days for testing and some clinical work everything is online.

sagarcia210, you can get your LPN from Deaconess online, but you then have to continue on and finish the ASN program. It's the on-campus program that you cannot get your LPN.

Trish,
I am a first semester student with Deaconess. I just found that we are required to travel to St Louis for a clinical skills exam (once at the end of the semester). So you do have to go to St Louis during the first semester as well as all other clinical semesters.

Ok, that is fine with me. I was applying to the college in my area and not able to go full time for my nursing program till my daughter got into kindergarten in 2 years, now I will be finished right after she starts. YEAH I can't wait to get started!!!!! How are your classes going? Have you had any trouble finding a place to do your clinicals? I work at a hospital as a PCA now so I am going to ask my Director if she can approve it or who I need to ask.
How about books and uniforms, how do you get them? Sorry I am so full of questions I am just so excited that I can be done at the time I thought I was going ot have to get started.

You sound like me 6 months ago...I thought I would have to wait 2 years on a waiting list at my local CC to get into a program until I found Deaconess. I was on cloud 9 when I was accepted for the Fall 2004.
This is my 3rd week of classes and I am enjoying it, but staying very busy. I am going to be working on my basic skills once a week at the hospital that I will be doing clinicals at. Then I will start my OB PEDS clinicals in January. I did have to call a handful of hospitals to get an internship, but the hospital I found is awesome. The Director of Education has been so helpful and supportive...
So keep in touch and let us know how things go for you...

Hi do you know it the OB/PEDS hours have to be in a hospital setting? Were you guys given any other options. I think I should be hearing back from Deaconess any day now in regards to admission for January 2005.
Is anyone starting Deaconess in January 2005? I applied but haven't heard anything and I am getting nervous.
Thanks

I called Deaconess today and found the recruiter kind of short and not very helpful. When I asked her if the clinicals were as rigid as Excelsior College's she first asked me what I meant by that (I told her I've heard that if you skip a step in the procedure and/or if they have to correct you, you fail that particular skill and she laughed and said, "I've never heard of anything like that..." She acted like everything I asked her was ridiculous. Talking to her was such a turnoff I eventually just hung up on her and called back. This time I got ahold of someone more helpful (happened to be the woman at the desk).
Turns out they have more requirements than Exelsior and each hour is $450 so each course was about $1250.
I just could not justify spending over $20,000 for something I could get at a community college for a fraction of the cost. I can't say for certain, but I would bet Excelsior doesn't even cost that much. I just couldn't see the value.
