Anyone familiar with Sacramento psych hospitals?

Hi,

I am a nurse with no psych experience who wants to make a career change to this specialty. I have mostly done L&D and med/surg. I recently moved to Sacramento and figured this would be the time to make that change. I found some psych positions at Sierra Vista and Heritage Oaks. They are both UHS hospitals which I have been reading about and hearing horrible things. I also read very bad reviews for both of these hospitals on glass door and indeed. The problem is, the only other hospital around here with psych is Sutter and there are no openings. I applied to these two psych hospitals and am waiting to hear back but I was wondering if anyone has any insight into these hospitals or the options for psych nursing in Sacramento.

Keep in mind that some people are motivated to write reviews when they are upset or had a bad experience. Plus...it's a psych hospital. It can't be all butterflies and rainbows, everyday.

That is true...however I looked up a psych hospital near my hometown just to make sure that all psych hospitals weren't like this and their reviews were much better.

I've never seen a review of a hospital, pysch or not, that DIDN'T have a negative review.

I wouldn't take those reviews seriously.

If you want an accurate description of what it's like working at either of those hospitals, simply call the unit during non-prime hours (i.e. PM shift), let the nurse know who answers you are considering working on the unit, and ask them to describe what it's like.
