I am considering a travel nurse assignment in Palm Springs, CA at Desert Regional Medical Center. Has anyone ever worked there?
If so, what was your experience like?
Thanks for posting your comments. I have to decide if I'm going there or not by next weekend.

I am from Palm Springs. We have been living in Alabama for around two years now. I never worked at Desert Hospital but I did have a baby there, plus a couple of surgeries. When I was out there, Desert was a good hospital to work at. I had friends that worked there and loved it.
Palm Springs is lovely this time of year! The population in that area doubles during the winter from all the snowbirds coming from up North. The area has really turned into one big resort. Retail and Hospitality are the main industries in that area, so if you like excellant customer service when you go out, this is the place for you!
If you can avoid being there during the 125 degree heat of the summer, it could be a nice assignment :)
Hi April
Thanks a lot for responding to my questions about Palm Springs, CA! :) I'm seriously thinking about taking that assignment. It last for 13 weeks with the option of extending. It's because of the high heat that I do not wish to extend beyond the first three months. I'd just be there from end of February to mid-May.
Is the weather okay during that time?

Yep. Check out this thread:

Oh my gosh, sjoe! Looks like I'd be leaving just in the nick of time........or should I say "just in the nick of the heat"? :chuckle
Thanks for posting that link for me. :)
I really need a vacation, and I love California more than any other state I've ever lived in before. I've been missing it something awful, but never thought I'd visit the "desert city" there. :chuckle
Still contemplating my other options though. I'd prefer to be right on the coastline if I do go to CA again. I did a travel nurse assignment in San Luis Obispo, CA back in the summer of 1989 and LOVED it! I could go there again for several months. It will keep me occupied and employed until my husband returns from overseas in a few months. He's okay with the idea, so I just might do it!

I use to live in La Quinta (part of the Palm Springs Valley) and I thought it was so pretty (I love the desert). Not much to do there in the summer but the pop does tripple in winter.
They day I moved out was mid August and the outside temp in the shade read 123. it was a little warm!

Mercy!!! Maybe I should choose some place 'cooler'...not cold, not hot...cool...fall like weather since I love fall. :)
I lived in Arizona years and years ago, and remember how hot and dry that heat was. Gila Bend was AWful! Talk about scorching hot desert heat!

We just spent 3 years there, and honestly people complain about the 120 degrees... but as soon as the sun goes behind the mountain.... it's gorgeous!!!! There's nothing like the beautiful mornings in the desert!
There are only about 2 months that are really hot, and even then, it's only 12 hours out of the day that are really HOT. The weather in the evenings and night time are so wonderful, that the streets of Palm Springs are full of people walking around enjoying the nightlife.
I also want to comment that in the 3 years were there, it only got above the 115 degree range a couple times. Still, the people are very friendly, and the humidity is incredibly low. Just bring some moisturizer, sun screen, hat and sun glasses!
Palms Springs is literally a 2 to 3 hour drive from ANYWHERE!!! San Diego, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Mexico.... It's a great place to be if you really want to get out and see some get places!!!
I stayed in Desert Regional when I had a complicated pregnancy. Great crew!!! You'll also get to see quite a few movie stars (young and old) come through their doors. I was there when Bob Hope was sick a few years ago. The hospital is very nice looking!
kate930..........THANK YOU for the positive side of that hospital and city! :) I really would like to give it a try, but must weigh every option and reality as I possibly can before jumping into a contract for three months.
I've read the threads about working for TENET HEALTHCARE CORP, and Desert Regional is one of their hospitals. It sounds like Desert Regional is in a class all its own though.
Are there SOME hospitals run by Tenet that are okay to work for?
