Hi everyone,
I am a full time pre-nursing student in a community college. I have taken all my pre-reqs except for A&P I and Chemistry. I would really like to knock out both of these classes next semester but I am nervous. I took a very full load of classes this semester (Algebra, ENG 102, BIO 181, Philosophy) and am ready to shoot myself now that all my finals are next week. This was a really tough semester and I told myself - never again. Anyways, I have had several people tell me that A&P I and Chemistry can be taken together and it wouldn't be that bad, especially because those would be my only classes and I don't work outside the home. I do have a family (hubby and kids) that takes a lot of my time though. I wanted to see if anyone else has taken these classes together, is it really difficult or is it manageable? I talked to my nursing adviser and she said that they don't usually recommend taking 2 sciences together but these are 2 different sciences and she shrugged her shoulders and told me that if I did well in biology (I got an A) and those were my only two classes keeping me from applying to nursing school in the Fall then to just take them.
But I just wanted to get feedback from someone. I'm not in a huge rush to apply. If it is truly difficult then I don't mind just taking one class this Spring and the other this Fall and applying next Spring. Just thought I'd get some opinions. Thank you for your time!

I did....I took AP,chemistry, nutrition and intro to nursing all the same semester..trying to rush through my pre reqs..lesson learned because I failed AP . I was working full time as well, but wasnt married and didnt have children. It was too much for me, but that doesnt mean it will be too much for you. just be prepared to devote a lot of time to each subject.
I've just recently went back to school and took AP by itself and I have an A now :heartbeat

I did. Got A's in both. A&P 1 was far more time consuming than chemistry was. Study at least 1 hour for each everyday, and you should do well (FWIW I studied for chem every other day and still got an A, it's A&P you need to watch like a hawk).

I'm taking it next semester with A&P 2 so I sure hope it's doable! I'm adding Micro to the mix as well so I may be downright insane...
FWIW- I say go for it! We can pull our hair out together!

I am next semester, but I've taken A+P and chemistry before (they've expired) and still remember a fair bit. If it was all new, I wouldn't.

I'm doing it right now along with 2 other classes (I'm nuts I know) As long as you have good study habits you should be fine if that's all you're taking

What Chemistry is it?
General, Intro, Organic and Biochem?
Is it a lab science? I wouldn't recommend taking two lab sciences at the same time.
I think anything is possible with motivation. But, I would also consider whether you are applying to a school with a highly GPA driven admissions process.
And I should mention I have 3 small kids, so that factored in my answer.

I would advise you not overload youselve as i just did, LESSON LEARNED BIG TIME! i just had to grin and take a W (withdrawel) in A&P1 because i had another intense course plus intro to pyschology, I personally suggest taking a&p1 alone or with a bunch of less intense classes. I am a 3.8 gpa student and boy a&p1 put me in a shock, felt like bootcamp! I got overwhelmed to no end this semester, i studied for hours for a&p and kind of pushed my courses aside, I do recommond atleast an hour a day studying for a&p it is intense, but not impossible aslong as you have time to put into it, which sadly i didn't!
Remember, Anatomy you will prob have to memorize 206 bones, get timed to know them in a min at each station and have about 80 on your exam out of the 206
You need to know muscles and functions! And the Nervous system, it's alot of material in a short amount of time!
Oh i also suggest taking chemistry before a&p1 because alot of the physiology has a bit of chem in it in my eyes it easy to understand with a little background, my nursing adviser advises students to take chemistry first.
Sorry for my horrible spelling!
I wish you the best of luck!

I was planning to take AP1 and Chem next semester. I volunteer at the hospital and I work bartending 4 nights a week. I am a little nervous to take them both but if I take AP with a non lab science like nutrition or something then I will have to wait a whole other semester to apply to school. I was an honors student in both my BA and my MPH and worked full time in both so I am hoping that I can do it. Do you really think that is a big mistake?
I don't think too terrible Grasshopper... It is doable.. especially someone with well established study skills.
