I got an order for thorazine iv, for a fever. I've never heard of this before, but it worked. Temp went from 107 to 102 in 2 hours
I guess hiccups and psychosis aren't the only things it's good for.

:) No I have never given Thorazine for a fever. I guess it's true that we never stop learning.

Very interesting. May I ask what caused the fever of 107? (Might give us a clue why the thorazine was helpful.)
Well she was probable sepsis, but we were thinking there was a neuro component involved. Wbc were 25,000. We drew blood cultures, but of course the wee pending. Hx of multiple myeloma and plasma dyscasia. There were some definite nuero components.
I saw where it is used for tetorifice/lockjaw. Hmmm. Will think about this and see if there is a doc to ask tomorrow at work.

The UK has drastically reduced use of Thorazine (we call it Thioridazine) because of cardiac complications.
