Anyone Enrolled at Robert Ross (IUON) International University of Nursing

Hello,

If someone is enrolled at the Robert Ross International University of Nursing at St. Kitts of the Carribean Islands, I would like to hear from you.

I'm interested in the school since it has "No Waiting List" for a 21 month Nursing Associate Degree program. I would like some feedback on your impression and/or personal experience at this private university (www.iuon.org).

Are you sure they are accredited? The reason I ask is that in the accreditation section - they only state that they are accredited through some organization in St. Kitts. Below, it does say that affiliated schools are accredited by the NLNAC but it doesn't state they are an affiliated school. Plus, there is only one PhD RN and only three nurses that I saw listed in the faculty section. Are you sure you can sit for the NCLEX after completing this? Then, my next question would be arranging clinicals, since it seems like they are done stateside?

Make sure that it is accepted by your state Board of Nursing before doing anything. Please do a search on this site and you will find threads about the program.

my response that might give you a means to answer your questions that i gave to someone interested in this private nursing school from the distance / independant learning forum is as followed:

this "no waiting list" 21 months - associate degree nursing program located at st. kitts, carribean islands and its affiliated school seminole community college in oklahoma state has a website at: www.iuon.org/video.

additional helpful readings on the school are:

the california associate director of admissions from iuon school recently responded to my email. he wrote, "our seminole community college affiliate nursing school is accredited by wasc [the western association of schools and colleges] which is the official accrediation agency for the western region of the united states. they are the same official agency that accredits your high school and cerritos college (my college that i presently attend) and all others."

i personally would need to do more research on the accrediation by wasc.

i did call one of the california state universities about whether they would accept my transcript from an international nursing program that is accredited by wasc if i was to pursue my bachelor's degree in nursing at their school in the future?

they answered, "yes, we do recognize and accept from a wasc accredited school."

The issue still is not with whether or not another school will accept its credits, but if a state will accept the curriculum for licensure as an RN in that state. This is what you need to find out from the BON. Not all porgrams are accepted all over.

CA is very specific in what they will and will not accept. That is why I keep mentioning, do your homework first.

i still need clarification.

so far what i have is if i attend this private international nursing program, i would take the nclex through the oklahoma state board of nursing since the us affiliated school is at seminole community college in oklahoma state. the oklahoma state board of nursing has a $85 application fee + $200 for the registration of the exam.

i am a ca resident & this is what i found:

to qualify for endorsement (reciprocity) into california as a rn, you must hold a current and active license in another state or canada, have completed an educational program meeting all california requirements, and have passed national council licensure examination (nclex-rn) or the state board test pool examination (sbtpe). the canadian comprehensive examination is not acceptable. if you do not possess these qualifications, you do not qualify for licensure by endorsement and must apply to take the examination instead.

the ca fees are:

initial endorsement application

$50.00

fingerprint processing

$56.00

temporary license (optional)

$30.00

so i would spend $106 additional fees to be licensed in ca.

the dean of admission from iuon advised me that i would still be able to work in ca (or anywhere in the us) eventhough i don't have a rn license through the ca board of nursing.

i greatly appreciate your suggestions and feedback on my questions about this school to suzanne4, opal & others who have responded.

it has given me wise insight on deciding to enroll or reconsider.

i thank god for this awesome nursing website that has allowed me to interact with honest and insightful people who i'm sure have a passion for nursing.

To qualify for endorsement (reciprocity) into California as a RN, you must hold a current and active license in another state or Canada, have completed an educational program meeting all California requirements, and have passed National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) or the State Board Test Pool Examination (SBTPE).

The Dean of Admission from IUON advised me that I would still be able to work in CA (or anywhere in the US) eventhough I don't have a RN license through the CA Board of Nursing.

What Suzanne keeps trying to tell you is that you need to find out whether the CA Board of Registered Nursing accepts this school as meeting all their requirements (as they note in your own quote above) -- if they don't accept this school's curriculum and clinical program as meeting their requirements, you will not be able to get licensed in CA. You will not be eligible to sit the NCLEX in CA, and you will not be able to get licensed through endorsement.

And the statement made to you by the "Dean of Admission from IUON" is just flat wrong -- you cannot work as an RN in CA without having a CA license to practice nursing, issued by the CA BRN.

i know it is about 6,000 semester with 3 semesters in a year.

our dollar is 21/2 times their dollar.

hey i graduated from IUON in August. I am from California and I currently have my RN license. If you have any questions about the school or living on the island I don't mind helping you out.

Just for clarification, it is possible to work in any state as a RN without holding a license in that state. The only catch is that the only employer you can have is the federal government, most likely the VA. Federal health care facilities require that you be licensed in any state, but not necessarily the one you are practicing in. This is probably what the dean meant in his/her letter, but it was unethical for them to not clarify it further.
