Anyone else going to Mayo??

Published

Hi all,

I am going to be working at the Mayo Clinic in MN starting in September and have a few questions...

In my unit we have to wear navy scrubs, can these be any brand of scrubs or are there only a few to choose from?

Can I wear all white running shoes or do they need to be leather (no mesh)?

How soon did you expect to get your "lump sum"?

I have so many questions seems like....

Thank you in advance!!

I have a friend who works there named Beata. She says they wear navy but that's all she said. Don't think it matters because she also said she did not have to buy new uniforms. We wear navy too. You'll be glad to know she loves it there!!!!! Good Luck on your new job!:D

Thank you so much! I have to buy ALL new everything... :(

Don't look at it as you have to buy all new everything. Look at as I get to go shopping!:yeah: You're going to a new job and a wonderful place to work from what I hear. You'll make up the :twocents: later. Relax and enjoy shopping:) :redpinkhe Keep thinking of the positives.

You have a very good point! I am shopping as we "speak" ;)

Rochester is a good place. They have a big mall up there. Mayo is a good hospital. I just didn't want to go back to MN. I left after high school and i was tired of the winters in Edina. Now, i know the north gets colder than cities near Minneapolis so i figured if i don't want to work in the south, i'm not going anywhere up north.

If you love winters, skiing and stuff, you'll love MN. I used to cross country ski on the lakes in golden valley back in high school.

Have fun and enjoy the lakes.

Lucky you! Mayo! I hear everyone loves it there, hope you will too. Congrats and good success with the new job :)

I also wanted to say that MN is a wonderful place to live HOWEVER you really have to take several vacations to warm sunny tropical places in the winter or you'll get cabin fever! Unless you really really like ice fishing and snowmobiles.

Thank you!! :) I am very excited, I know several people interviewed for this position and I feel so very blessed to have been hired... Talk about intense interview! I can't wait for my first day. I know it is snowy and cold sometimes but I have lived in South Dakota alllll my life so I am used to that. Working for this organization makes any unfavorable weather worth it!! ;)

However, we have already planned trips to Vegas, Mexico, and Greece!

It does not matter on the brand of the scrubs as long as they are navy and they prefer non mesh shoes however few follow that rule... I have seen many nurses wearing running shoes or navy/black nursing shoes.

As for reimbursement for traveling, you can expect that within the first 30 days. I received my $$ by the second paycheck so they are pretty good with that. I did the option for $1000 and the contract move and that worked out really well :) Good luck and if you have any other ?'s PM me.

Welcome to Mayo :)

Thank you so much Jbeachgrl! Just the answers I was needing. :)

I was going to order all white Nikes but maybe now I'll just get some non-mesh nurse shoes.

I think I am going to do the self move option, for $2000. My step-dad is a rancher and is offering to drive his huge trailer for us. So, hopefully that works out okay.

Thank you so much for responding!!
