Anyone else just hating school this semester??
I guess its just because its new classes to get used to, but I dread going to class now. Its also the first time Ive had to take my kids to daycare in order to go to class, so thats making me feel like crap.
I just wanna break, but I know I cant stop now Im almost there....

FNP, sorry to hear that. You are not alone. Do you dislike your classes?
Hang in there.
I guess I dislike the enviroment. The community college I am at is all -for lack of a better word- adolescents. Kids right out of high school non serious, no adults type of thing. Ive always taken my classes online so I didnt have to go there. Next semester I'll be at a university thank goodness.

This is somewhat funny - my three friends and I, who have been together through practically all of our prereqs, were commenting the other night that people are TOO SERIOUS....my father passed away in April and he and I were really close - I finally learned that you only get one trip around this world and sometimes you can't take it so seriously that you fail to see how COOL it looks when you get to look at LIVE E. COLI under the microscope! (I thought that was the NEATEST thing - really!)
I told my friend while he was trying to find the little bug on the slide that there he is, thinking he's gonna go out and infect someone when all that's going to happen to him is he's gonna get fried in an autoclave when the slides are cleaned, and our other lab partner started laughing. The pair next to us just looked at me like I was some sort of a freak. We WERE having intelligent conversation - we were also talking about how they moved differently from the S. aureus we'd just looked at (I have a special sort of loathing for S. aureus; it killed my father, the little bugger). The instructor was all excited because I was excited. I think we're the only ones who have fun in there (usually lab is a drag; I don't know what I'd do without them). We weren't being loud, we weren't being disturbing - we were enjoying the experience - I thought, anyway!
I know there's a time to be serious - and I don't know what I'd do if I had a bunch of kids in my class like you're describing - but see if they're just taking things the way I am and not cutting up.
If they are cutting up - I feel for you and have been there myself, and know it drives you crazy. Hang in there - we're almost done with this part....
Also - the university may not be what you're expecting either...I dont' know if you mean for your program or for other prereqs...

although i understand what you mean about the adolescents (make you want to choke them sometimes don't they?? lol) i am in the opposite boat, this is the first (and only) semester i am doing on line classes, and i have having a heck of a time! i feel like i am not accomplishing anything, and i can't seem to get "into" it! i just need to force myself to do this i guess! any tips on taking these online classes?

I do feel for you. My biology class last semester was a nightmare. Lots of talking, goofing off, asking dumb questions etc. The cheeky monkeys!
I have been fortunate, though, in that there have been some older students in all of my classes. Sometimes there is just one in addition to me, but at least I'm not the only one!
I'm actually learning to enjoy the fresh out of high school kids. Perhaps it's because they are my son's age. And the younger students in my A & P class seem quite serious about it, perhaps because its not a general ed course and is a requirement for our majors, and the higher our grade in it, the better our chances of getting into our desired program. I have even been given a nickname in A & P-"Rain Man"- because of my ability to learn the origins and insertions quickly. It means a lot to me when one of the younger students asks for help in learning a concept or a table of O & I's.
Hang in there. It will get better. When you get to the University, you most likely will meet lots of students with a diversity of age groups and backgrounds.

Oh man do I hate the dumb questions....we have a quiz tonight and I swear Tuesday five people asked five different times what chapter it was going to cover - and the question was answered every time it was asked....

I found that the further along I have moved in taking prereqs (A & P II for instance), the more serious the majority of the students were....unlike some of the more basic classes that are required for graduation or to get into some programs....also, I think the evening classes tend to have a better mix of students as they're more likely to be working adults and people who have other "grown-up" responsibilities....and I agree that getting to a university may not make all that much of a difference....there again I found that the evening and weekend classes were composed of students that I could relate to....many of the day students were there because it was expected of them after graduating from high school -- not because they cared about getting anything out of a college education.
Hang in there!

I'm with you. Lots of young kids in my classes. In fact, I am the oldest in 3 out of 4 of my classes! Some twerp today was tapping his shoe on the bck of my chair the whole class. I finally had to say something during the quiz because it was bugging the CRAP out of me!
I have 2 classes where I am not learning ANYTHING from the instructors. In ENG 101 all we have done is read essays and comment on them. We finally got the syllabus Thursday and our ENTIRE grade comes down to 5 - 20 point essays and THAT'S IT! I could not believe it. The other english class had ONE assignment that is worth out ENTIRE grade.
In PSY 101 all the instructor does is tell stories. We hardly make it through the book because all she does is tell stories and repeat the same things every class. She even told a "true" story that was out of the Dicky Roberts movie (the dog dug up the rabbit one). UGH!!!!
I am also having problems with BIO but I already started a thread on that one
