Hi there i know ive asked question or two similar to this, but i am curious to those with a past criminal record have you ever worked in a hospital and did you have a problem getting the job due to your background?Just wondering I want to work in a hospital just weekends so I can be with the kids during the week but wondered if hospitals will not hire someone with a background non violent crime on their record. Thank you so much Donna

I think if you have a felony, probably not. I have a misdemeanor on my record...but I am no criminal that's for sure. I think I will be allowed to sit for boards(awaiting clearance from the BON) So I hope a hospital will see it the same way the BON does.

Ummm Dix, Before you call me "ridiculous", let me explain that when I think *criminals*, I just don't think "bad checks". Now, I would like more info on this OP before i would say "yes sure, criminals belong in hospitals working", wouldn't you?
WOW must be a full moon coming; the meanie posters are out.
Dixie Cup, I would rather have a criminal that is a great nurse with a loving heart vs a non crininal who is mean like you and just for the record, My cahrge is filing a false police report beacuse my husband beat the crap out of me again and I called the police but then for the fourth time I got scared and said that I lied and he did not ouch me and the police charged me with filing a false police record. Please dont judge until you know the story Donna
No judgements here. Just don't know all the facts. I think reserving an opinion or judgment is prudent unless one knows the facts. This OP has presented few here. I wish all involved well.

There is new legislation in Canada called Protection For Persons in Care. It requires that a criminal records check be done for all new employees prior to a job offer being made. There are of course differneces between a murder conviction and a shop lifting conviction (think Winona) and allowances are made for stupid teenager tricks.
Personally, I think some things are indicitive of basic honesty/lack thereof and need to be considered in all circumstances.
sorry I thought when I posted that you made that rude comment about wanting a nurse criminal to take care of your loved one. I realized after. well thank you. When we say criminal conviction, it does not alway s mean drugs murder ect
