Anyone have a clinical site in Dallas, TX

If you are already an LPN/LVN (I always forget which we have here), you can certainly work at that, but I'm fairly certain you will not find a hospital willing to let you show up and "do clinicals."

You wouldn't have a clinical professor. The hospital would be liable for any error you might make. And it actually costs a lot to provide you with the supervision you would require.

On the other hand, I just signed on with Medical City of Dallas Hospital as a new RN. I have coworkers on my floor who are Excelsior students (who are LVN's currently), so I know the hospital will hire you, but you have to have the credential first.

No hospital will take on a solitary nursing student so they can do clinicals, sorry!

For the reasons Chris sited, it isn't easy to find a clinical site. There must be some that do though, or programs like Deaconess would not exist.

Hello All,
I am starting a distance learning BSN program and I will need to find a hospital in the Dallas area to do my clinical hours. I was wondering if anyone going through Deaconess or another distance program has already found a hospital that is willing to work with students in distance learning programs.
Any help is appreciated.

The best way to find out is to start making calls before you apply. You may find a hospital willing to take you on. Many people have done this but I am not sure about Dallas. Also, be sure to check with your BON to make sure that there are no restrictions regarding the program.

I am not the first person to go through the program, so I know there is a way to complete the requirements. This is a texas based nursing program and there are no restrictions by the BON.

My school will assist me in finding a site, I was just trying to get a head start. I know that there are facilities that will take on students because programs like Deaconess have been doing it for years. I have a few contacts at some hospitals. I was just trying to avoid re-inventing the wheel.

How much experience do you have with the facilities in the Dallas area? Obviously, it doesn't make sense for me or anyone else to expect to just "show up" at a hospital to do clinicals and not have an instructor. I am going through a Texas-based university program and there is alot more involved than just showing up at a site.

You are right, it is not impossible but I'm sure it will take a little work. I won't be able to do my clinicals until I complete my first semester coursework (18 hours) so I have a little time to do my research.
