anybody working as a caregiver w/in homecare

I was just curious if anybody is working for an agency as a in-homecare caregiver. I love my job and find it rewarding working with the elderly , but sometimes I just sit there and babysit and its getting really old I just can't stand it !!!!!! My client does not do anything just sits there and smokes her lovely intoxicating cigarettes:crying2:

I can not motivate her to do anything I need help and advice for this situation.

I do my documentation, study for school, watch tv with the client, do extra things around the client's room to keep it tidy, clean equipment, work on documentation or the care plan, do range of motion exercises with the client, talk with the client, look up stuff in nursing reference books. Just about anything to get through the time. But most of my shift is taken up by my nursing tasks one way or another.

Years ago I use to get a lot of Home Health cases while a CNA with my Agency as you described. It is not your job to judge or change these people. They were and are the way they are now long before they got 24hour - babysitter care. It can get boring - however that is up to you how bored do you want to be. Example - I had a lady whom - after the 4th visit I found out that she had been a court transulator and spoke perfect Spanish. I did not have anything to do so I bought a book of how to learn Spanish and she helped me. It was something I always wanted to learn and it bridged a friendship between us that she felt like she was usefull and respected. Others of coorifice - there is nothing you can do period, but if allowed I do know of several nurses who have taken just such cases so they can study during work. Older CNA's knit.
