HEY!!

Sooo I have been having a HARD time getting a job at Winnie Palmer. The reason I became a nurse was to become a Labor and Delivery Nurse and to work at Winnie Palmer! I have 1 1/2 years experience and I have applied multiple times. I have gotten 5 interviews which ALL went amazing...I thought. The manager all seemed liked they loved me! I interview very well and I have my bachelors degree. But for soommmeee reason I never get the job? Is it because of my experience? Being that I do not have any? But I am very enthusiatic to work there. I have shadowed on the floor (unpaid) and I just do not get what is going on? PLEASE HELP!!! Does anyone work at Winnie Palmer and can give me advice?? A hookup or anything? I am a great RN and whenever I ask around I get the "Its who you know not what you know"..unfortunetly I do not know any nurses or personnel at Winnie to help so I am reaching out to anyone who can help me!! I just want to work with women and babies...I know that that is my calling. Any help? Thank you!

PS. I have also applied to FLorida Hospital many times and do not even get an interview?

I don't work for Winnie, but I guess the first question would be what kind of experience do you have and where have you worked? Where did you go to nursing school? I would agree that with nursing in this economy, it's who you know and not what you know that will get you in the door where you want to be. Of the people I started with at Orlando Health recently, a very large majority of us either did clinicals with OH with the opportunity to network with unit managers or worked as clin techs there. If you went to nursing school locally, did you keep in contact with any of your instructors (that may have contacts there)?

Next, I don't know exactly what is required of an L&D nurse, but I believe it is a critical care area and WPH handles many at risk mothers/babies. If the facility you work for offers any education opportunities, take the initiative to get any training you can: critical care, ACLS, PALS, diabetes, etc. You've got 1.5yr experience, you can probably get a certification in your current area of experience soon. I know you said you have BSN, so that is good because WPH is going for magnet status and additional certifications are extremely valuable.

Next, if you don't already work for OH, consider applying for a nursing position with OH that will allow you to get you foot in the door with the organization. You'd likely have to work in that area for a year to be able to transfer. OH does offer education opportunities that can show the organization that you're motivated.

Lastly, if you've interviewed 5 times and not gotten the position, you must have the manager's name and contact info. Consider contacting them and asking them what would have made you a better candidate. If you sensed the interview went well, perhaps you were a great candidate, but someone else interviewed that 1- knew someone there, 2- had more relevant experience or training or 3- worked for the organization.

Good luck!

I don't work at Winnie but Orlando health is having major budget cuts and they aren't really hiring anyone. I'm sure you are a great nurse but Orlando health isn't doing too well financially. That could be one of the reasons or maybe they hired someone with more experience. I wish you the best of luck in your career and don't give up.

I would love to work at Winnie too. I had a great interview in the Winnie Palmer Pre-Admissions department back in February. In my several follow-up conversations/emails with the Nurse Manager; she said that she would love to have me on their team, but it seems as though all of their hiring as been on a hold. For the last several weeks, Winnie Palmer wasn't even coming up as a selection when on their careers/job section. I know this hospital system did have some layoffs back in November-December and I am hearing that they are going to be having more as well.

Hello dear I am a Winnie nurse worked there for a total of 6 yrs. First as a tech now as a nurse. I am sure you are a good nurse but right now the company is in a hiring freeze! Not sure when they will lift it but keep trying and good luck. Also it is true it's who you know because many times although they post positions they already have a candidate for the opening.

Again good luck and try a smaller hospital to get the needed experience.

Cococure, My name is Nicole. I recently started working towards my AA degree at Valencia. I am conducting a research paper that includes an interview of the career field I'm going into. I was wondering how I go about doing this at Winnie Palmer. Please help!

I have also applied to Winnie Palmer Hospital in the postpartum mother baby unit and I do not have any experience in this area. I currently work on a neuro/stroke floor but I want to take a different direction in my nursing career. Can you or anyone give me any advice on how to move forward in this direction and what are their expectations on this unit?

It's all about who you know at Winnie and if you have BSN ...my unit is only hiring BSN nurses and we just hired quit a few over the last few months. Just keep trying and bugging HR.

Good luck

Thank you Cococure, unfortunately I do not know anyone at Winnie, but I do have a BSN. I will keep my fingers crossed and continue to keep in touch with HR. Thank you again for your response ;)

Anyone know what Winnie Palmer pays? I am a NICU nurse in MN with my BSN from a private college and 2 years of NICU experience. We have looked at moving but I know Florida pays crap compared to MN (we start out at $31/hr). We are sick of MN and looking for a change and want to try Florida but swallowing the pay cut will be hard. Just curious what you all think? I know a lot of northerners look to transplant down south and then hate it. I guess if we didn't like it we could come back.

I am from Chicago looking to move and actually have an interview with Winnie Palmer next week!!! I guess I will find out what they would start me off at, but I have no experience in that department. I currently work on a neuro/stroke unit so I don't know if they count that against me. I also interviewed for Baptist health in Miami and they pay they offered me was 26.55 so it is less than what I make now 28.23/hr. I am ready to leave the North Pole so if things don't work out I could always come back or go somewhere else. "if you don't like where you are, MOVE. You are not a tree."
