Any VA hospital employees? Need 2 vent!

whats up with the va hospital? i just cant understand some of the things that go on there, and are allowed to.

its like any and everyone with a bad attitude works there and its ok. most of the nurses are terrible when it comes to taking care of the patients, emotionally and all and plz dont get me started on the nursing assistants! esp since its said that they have more power than any of the nurses, and some make more than some rns! and they do absolutely nothing!!! :banghead:

has anyone else had this experience? if so how do you cope without being sucked into "the va way"? and coming out with a terrible attitude, and "i dont care" mentality?

its hard to find decent work as an lvn without working in ltc, so hence why im still there. i just want to work in the hospital setting as a lvn, or anything other than ltc but there has got to be a better way!

I have a friend who works there that feels exactly the same way! He almost quit because he felt that the employees cared about the paycheck, not the patients. But he's sticking it out, and doing the best that he can for his patients. As for the CNAs, when he's the charge nurse, he'll send their butts home if they're not doing their job. He told me that they don't shouldn't be getting paid to sit there if they're not doing any work!!

VAs vary from place to place- just like in the private sector. Some of them are great, and some of them are crappy.

Yea well from wat I have seen there is too much "red tape" in place to just send someone home. Thats when everyone suffers.

I know what you mean. I think alot of people try to run things or say that they are not doing that job. I'm an LVN also and I feel like we do so much work there. It isn't bad to do work but when you have other people sitting down and surfing the web, it's jsut weird.

need advice.just arrived here in newport news, got my license in california and still waiting for my permit to work, need to do any volunteering jobs in nursing had no experience at all, any advise.dont know how to start.thanks
