Any Tampa RNs??

My husband may be accepting a job in Temple Terrace, FL. Does anyone know what this town is like? I am an RN with 6 yrs experience in SICU, Level 1 Trauma University teaching hospital. What would be the equivalent hospital in this area? TGH? What are salaries like? Any other recommended hospitals besides TGH? Thank you for your input!

You might want to check out St Joseph's too. Its a magnet hospital.

TGH is the only level one trauma center/teaching hospital around here. St. Joe's is not a teaching hospital but I think it's a level one trauma center too, also about the same size as TGH.

TGH is the only L1 in the area. St. Joseph is a L2. TGH is on an island, downtown, and you have to pay for parking or ride a shuttle from a remote lot. It's a 10 mile drive from Temple terrace. It's affiliated with USF med school, and they do EVERYTHING. They have a good food court, too. At St Joe's you don't pay for parking. The cafeteria is nothing to write home about. It's probably a little closer to Temple Terrace. The pay is about the same at both. If you don't want to commute, you might look at Moffitt Cancer Center, adjacent to the USF campus, which is a stone's throw from TT. Also, University Community Hospital and the Haley VA Hospital are all within a one-block area. That whole university area is full of MD offices (check out USF Physician Services) and outpatient facilities, like FL Orthopaedic Institute, which has its own surgical facility. Any hospital would probably love to have you.

Do you know much about the VA? I think that TGH is too far of a commute, so I'm concentrating on St.Joseph, Moffitt, VA, and UCH. Which do you recommend seeking out?

The only thing I know about the VA is that you really work for your $. Lots of Iraq and Afghanastan vets at the VA. (I have a friend who did an agency contract there, and loved the pts, but her work load was huge.) I've been a pt at Moffitt, and it's a wonderful facility. Free valet parking, everyone is SOOOO nice, great MDs (also affiliated with USF). I don't know about working there, but it's great from a pt viewpoint.
