Any RNs or nursing students in Western NY?

Published

I will be relocating to Rochester, NY at the end of this month and am considering going back to school to become an RN. Any nurses or nursing students in the area? How are job prospects for RNs in WNY? How about those who only have an ADN? Also, any advice on schools there with nursing programs? Thanks!

I don't live in NY, but it's hard anywhere to get a job. Look under positions at hospitals and stuff and look at qualifications for jobs...like 1 year experience and such. See if they hire new grads. But, yeah, it's hard everywhere to get a job. If you have the money to spend and be able to wait for a job for a while, then it's okay. But, if you are financially strapped, then I would re-think.

I'm a new RN in Rochester. Job prospects here are good right now. I believe everyone that applied locally from my graduating class (Dec) has a job. Of the new hires, my hospital seemed to hire a mix of BSN-ADN. Most of those with ADN are planning to use the tuition benefits for the RN-BSN program. The nursing programs are pretty competitive here. The community college uses a point system for admittance - and I've heard it's about a two year wait. There is an accelerated program at the U of R, and other 4 year programs at St. John Fisher, Nazareth, Roberts Wesleyan, and SUNY Brockport. GCC is the next county over but close enough that many students use their program. Hope I didn't leave any out......
