I know the job hunt for New Nurses is a challenging one. Has any of you found at least Per Diem jobs? I was wondering if it is possible to gain Per Diem Jobs considering we have no real work experience yet?

I don't think you can work per diem or contingent until you have at least a year's experience. That would be my dream job, one that allows me to schedule myself! I have discovered that being at other people's mercy to have time off is not my cup of tea. Well, I knew that going into my current job, I just didn't realize how much I would feel like a slave to my job .

I really depends on your experience and the unit. My boss said that he could hire me per diem night( temporary) with some training involved. Its a med-surg unit where I have been working as a nurse tech and the nurses have been unofficially training me to move up to a RN position.

I am a new grad and I have a job interview next week and it would be a per diem position once orientation is over.

My facility won't hire anyone with less than one year experience for per diem positions.

I was hired on as full time, but asked my manager to switch to per diem at about six months. Can't wait to begin scheduling myself!
thank you
It is so nice to see someone taking the time to respond and thank people. It amazes me when someone posts something and never returns or only acknowledges the replies that agree with their position.

So was I, and I eventually landed a permanent gig from it.
I think it depends on the facility. Most prefer to only hire per diems with experience, though if you have a strong resume and/or grades, you can try selling yourself to a facility and see what happens. Worked for me :)

I was just hired Per Diem at a SNF for now until there will be openings down the line. I am hoping to get more hours soon though, but nonetheless I am grateful for the opportunity (especially since I am living in the Bay Area, CA) where tons of New Grad Nurses are unemployed at the moment or have been for months now.
