Any new grads out there...

Published

I'm on Long Island and have been endlessly applying to RN positions. I just graduated last week, so have yet to take the NCLEX.

Has anyone received an interview or job offer before they passed the boards?

Just wondering if I'm jumping the gun with applying and if I should slow down until I take the NCLEX, which I will be taking as soon as I possibly can (no ATT yet).

Hi kjm, I am from queens. I am not a new grad but I am a new nurse looking for work since march after I pass my test. I have been filling out application since march and I am frustrated. I need some one to call me now.

I passed the NCLEX in February and just got my first job. I feel like the job interviews come in bunches so don't give up and apply everyday.

I agree! I also passed the NCLEX in February and finally got 3 interviews with 2 job offers and it all happened in one week!!

Don't give up and if you can, try to land an interview before the next wave of May graduates take their NCLEX...there will be more competition in a couple of months.

Thanks, I am a May graduate, just trying to land an interview before everyone else, as you said. Many people I graduated with are waiting till after the summer to look for a job, to focus on passing the NCLEX and take a break. Wasn't sure if I should stop applying till I take the NCLEX or just keep at it.

Thanks for the hope that there are jobs out there to be had by new grads, some posts on AN are discouraging about the job market. I apply everyday to positions as soon as they're posted, I figure I have to land an interview eventually. I'm an ASN graduate, with my BSN program starting next week. Just REALLY anxious to get hired, although I shouldn't be since its only been a week since graduation.

If anyone has been hired on Long Island with a temporary permit recently, let me know please.

I don't think you will have much luck applying to jobs before passing the NCLEX...especially in NY. Most of the hospitals won't even look at your application without passing the NCLEX first.

ADN RN in BSN program; licensed since Jan 2012. Been applying to facilities since september 2011. Once licensed I recieved a few responses and was able to interview with a few facilities. Majority of positions were closed prior to the interview R/T budget or strong desire to hire an experienced professional... for posted *new grad positions*. Luck and endless applications. Good luck!

I interviewed for and landed a job right after spring break during my last semester. I honestly don't think it will do you any harm applying to jobs before you take your boards. I still have to take mine (sorta playing the waiting game right now). But what do I know? The job market here Upstate is a lot different apparently; many of the people in my graduating class had already secured jobs.

Wow congratulations! I've been applying to jobs since the end of April, but only graduated a week ago. I'm going to keep applying, I figure it won't cause any harm and could only help even if I don't land a job right away. I'll definitely take the NCLEX as soon as I can, either way I'm going to persevere till I land a job. Good to know that the job market is good upstate NY. Thanks for replying to me, it's motivating to hear of others getting their first nursing job especially with so many posting about not having a job a year after graduation.
