I live in So Cal and unfortunately it's a rough job market until have 1 yr experience. I finally got my yr DONE and over with and started my job search for a second job part time to make some extra $$. My phone has been ringing off the hook with offers for HH and hospice, I took a hospice job. Anyone work a full time job (I work in an urgent care) and have a gig on the side?? How is it??

Having two jobs is very tiring, but the extra cash can be addictive.
When I was an LVN, my 'real' job was a weekend doubles gig at a nursing home. I would work two 16-hour shifts every Saturday and Sunday, be paid for 40 hours, and have Monday through Friday off. Since I had plenty of time off during the week, I would pick up PRN shifts at other workplaces such as a local psych hospital, other nursing homes, etc.

I'm also working at an urgent care plus working as an esthetician. I'm doing (usually) 6, sometimes 7 d/wk. It's tiring. What makes it doable is that I own the esthetics business and can set my own hrs.

Yes I have 2.5 and I am in RN bridge program. It gets tiring after awhile. I was working LTC and I had a weekend sales gig. Then I quit sales and went LTC weeknds. I then got a PRN hospice gig that basically needed me mon-fri, then I quit LTC and I now work hospice and HH(weekend baylor). I also have an agency job that I rarely go to and im signed up as a PRN school nurse :)! IF you are determined you can make it happen HUGS!

I live in Orlando and I just applied for my second agency nurse job. Unfortunately, in Central Florida Long Term Care and Home Health Care are the ONLY jobs new LPNs can get. But even with that, you need at least 1 year of experience (and in some cases, IV certified). The second job is not set in stone yet, but they hire nurses all the time so that's a good thing. I would love a job in medical-surgical nursing, but they no long hire LPNs in hospitals (unless you have 5 years or more of work experience as an LPN). I plan to register for an IV Certification course next month, this may give me more work opportunities. As far as work goes.. I haven't had work for two weeks, which is the reason I applied for a second job. I am hoping that working for at least three agencies will give me full-time work status. At least until I go back to school for the LPN-RN Transition Program in May 2013 (maybe even sooner) .
