Hello,
I'm in desperate need of a class to get better acclimated with IV insertion. I live in the San Diego area and I'm not having much luck, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead of time! Mary:balloons:

I've already registered for an IV cert class in NOCAL thanks to my ex-teachers.
Good luck.
Is it me, or do nurses in here actually give a damn about helping a fellow nurse out with finding IV cert classes?

Some years ago when I was having IV problems I was encouraged to take the LVN certification course even though I was an RN. I went just for the classes and did not participate in the clinical experience which was specifically designed for LVNs to do their first venipunctures (I already had enough of them to do at work!) What a difference it made for me! Unlike the LVNs in the class an RN can go and try out all those little tips they give you in the class and work with them right away. You will also have questions which will be answered for you by the instructor which will help you immensely as you learn this skill.
http://www.bvnpt.ca.gov/ivprov.htm is the web page for the approved IV certification courses by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians here in California. Call the schools to find out more specifics.
Another thing you can do is get a list of the approved CE providers at the Board of Registered Nursing website and contact individual providers and inquire if they offer any IV seminars.
Over the years I developed a real knack for doing IV's and ended up working on two different IV teams. IV's are just one of those skills that you have to practice over and over until you get good at it.
