Anyone have any insight on Centura? I know they are a large nonprofit faith based hospital system. What's the working environment like? Starting pay? How do they compare to other area hospitals? Thanks for any info!

I did float pool for them last summer, so I worked at three of their hospitals. I have no complaints and I think it's a good organization. My *only* complaint was at the Catholic hospitals (they have both Catholic and Adventist hospitals in the network) I was not allowed to provide patient teaching to my postpartum moms on birth control. But of course, that's what you need to expect working at a Catholic hospital. I imagine in most other areas of nursing, it would not particularly be an issue.

But it was a good job and I enjoyed working for them. I was given specialty float pool pay, so I can't tell you what they pay their regular staff nurses.

I was offered a job at two of their facilities. The organization seems good. They did not pay very well compared to where I ended up... im getiing $11/hr more where im headed.

Thanks for the insight. The organization seems great I just wonder if "nonprofit" also means "low pay"

Argo, are you headed to another hospital in CO? I could easily see $11 more per hour in another state

No, "non-profit" does not always equal low pay, especially with large organizations.

For those who work at the Catholic hospitals in the Centura system, did you have to sign anything swearing allegiance to the Roman Catholic church, or the Pontiff?

Argo, are you currently working in Vail? I have often dreamed of working there....would love to work there in the summer! Do you know if they have "seasonal" positions?

:D.... I worked at St. Anthony's for a short period of time; no hint of religion really mentioned. In fact if they were giving you directions they'd say "Turn left at the statue of Mary... go down the hall by Jesus ...", etc. You get the idea! They did do a little inspirational talk during orientation but it really was just that --- more nondenominational then anything else.
