I'm in my second class and so far have been challenged. The paper writing is mind boggling. Can anyone tell me what to expect for stats? Are there many tests? A final? I'm worried about taking this class and will be happy to have it done!

Stats reminded me of chemistry....each formula built on the previous. The book was great and it was the only one I read in its entirety. There was a quiz each week and a homework assignment, I think the final was just the last quiz. Quizzes were open book. Make notes for each formula with an example you understand. I am not great at math but got an A in stats. Good luck!
Can you give me an idea what a homework assignment consisted of? Who was your teacher? Do you think that made a difference?

I had a guy for my class and he was awesome. He had these worksheets that were pre-made and you could fill them out online for the assignments. I was fortunate to have my husband here to sort of "re-teach" as we went so that I understood the material better. It is a nice break from the papers though! Make sure you do the DQs as those are the easy points. I was super sick with my first child when I took the class and missed a lot of the points on DQs because I couldn't sit at the computer. I do think the instructor makes a difference, but I think overall the class is pretty self-taught.
I will do every effort for all points. I have heard it is pretty much self taught. Any online places to help with homework? Is Khan Academy good? Did you use it at any point?

Yep Khan Academy is your lecture. Each week you are assigned about 5-8 Khan academy videos to watch. I can't say they helped much.... I agree with tait in that the class is pretty much self taught. Indeed the discussion questions are points not to miss! The worksheets that are due at the end of the week (at least the ones that I had to do) looked daunting but if you look at the sample questions and answers (they give you these answers) the questions to be graded are VERY similar. If you have the option to NOT do this class on a Mac I would recommend that, I had a hard time with some things and had to work online at work! I got a B+ btw.
THANK YOU! This helps soo much! I can handle a B+. I just want to pass the thing. Sigh...
Oh, is there a group project?? Please say no! lol.

No group assignment. I also had a male professor, can't remember his name but I do remember he was from Arizona. The class isn't that bad but it is self taught and I hated the book, didn't find it to be helpful at all. I found if you get stuck on a question, google is your friend. The info I found on google searches was way better than the book, a lot times explained it better than the book. Glad you decided to go for this program, I only have one more class left after this one, yay!
Hey lovinlife11,
I think of you often when I come to AN. How is it going? Congrats on almost being done, that is awesome!!
Did you find the classes becoming more difficult to keep on top of with all the paperwork? I'm currently in week 3 of health assessment and it's freaking crazy! Tell me it doesn't pick up speed! Do the papers become longer as well? I hope I don't have two 10 page plus papers to do in a matter of 5 weeks on top of all the other crap.. Between 2 power points, reading, papers due every week, etc.. I have to work ahead to keep my sanity.
Any tips?
What do you know about the capstone?
It gets easier. I remember being stressed at the beginning and thinking it was only going to get harder, I didn't find that to be true though. I think we just acclimate:) it's going well, I'm very excited to almost be done, I have heard capstone is quite intensive, 15 references and a long paper. I'm in week 3 of trends and issues in healthcare, can let you know in two weeks what it involves! Hang in there, what is your next class?
I believe it is community health. All I know is it is class #4 with 8 more to go.
That is a relief to know it doesn't get any more crazy. GCU told me that I would be doing 14-15 hrs of work a week. Yeah right! I spend way more, probably close to 20. I try to work ahead as much as I can so I don't feel overwhelmed.
fifteen references, huh? I hear the capstone builds on all the previous classes too.
Please keep me posted. You can also email me at [email protected]
Again, congrats and thank you for all your info, support and advice.
