Any Excelsior graduates attending UTA's RN to BSN?

Hello all!

I am just one requirement shy of completing my ADN through excelsior college and then its on to conquer the beast they call NCLEX! I live in Texas and was wondering if anyone is currently attending/has attended UTA's RN to BSN program and after completing their ADN through Excelsior College. If so, did you face any issues with your credits being accepted. All feedback is welcomed!

Thanks,

Hi nursejessica, I got my ADN from Excelsior back in 2005. All my courses were accepted, however they initially gave me conflicting information about my sciences. Excelsior has 3 credit hours sciences (A&P and Micro) while UTA requires 4 credit hours each.

They ended up accepting Micro and A&P I, and I had to take A&P2 at UTA.

Other than that, I had zero problems with them accepting Excelsior credits. Everything transferred easily.

I am a 2008 Excelsior Graduate with my ASN and have about 6 months left in the program with UTA's RN-BSN. It will have taken me almost 2 years exactly to finish my BSN. They did accept all of my credits from Excelsior, but Excelsior is a little light on the pre-reqs, so I spent the first year just taking pre-reqs. Hope this helps and good luck. So far the nursing professors are great, I can't say the same about many of the general pre-req professors.

Thanks so much! I've completed all of my prerequisites through the local community colleges already but I was just concerned about the nursing theory courses. Well this helps with my decision then!

OMG, I am so glad someone asked and answered this question. I have recently applied to EC and am really nervous to start. I actually called UTA a few weeks ago asking if I would have a problem transferring EC credits to them but the lady I spoke with could not answer that question for me. I completed most of my prerequisites through the UTA online program. I simply went the LVN route when I got accepted here in Victoria b/c it was too competitive there at UTA. I am praying this route to ADN via EC and BSN via UTA will work out!

Hi. I'm a little late on this, but, UTA accepted all of my classes, including Micro (whew!)from excelsior.

Lovebees-

I know this is an old post but I wanted to see how the A and P thing worked out. I too am an EC grad applying to UTA and am worried about the A and P thing. Any feedback you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Kenyaaustin-

What was the outcome? I am applying to UTA right now and am waiting for my degree plan. Really nervous that I will have to retake A and P or micro (Please Lord NOOOOOO). I would love to hear your story.

If it's any help, I did not have to retake A&P OR micro!!! (Happy dance, happy dance!!):wacky:

Like everyone else, I'm so glad for all the answers here.

I'm an LVN who has been debating for a bit whether or not to go through EC to get my ADN with my ultimate goal being to enter UTA for ADN to BSN.

I've looked at the list of required prereqs for UTA, and while completing these at my local college I figure I'll get whatever is required by EC completed in the process. Next semester I will enroll in EC while taking the rest of my prereqs at my local college.

With this said, here is the list I found on UTA's website of required prereqs and I have 2 questions:

Courses and Credit Hours:

Chemistry - 3 (Not yet taken)

Biology - 3 (Will Intro to A&P count for this??)

Nutrition - 3 (I have no clue...what classes can I do for this??)

Microbiology - 3 (Not yet taken)

Pharmacology - 3 (Should be waivable)

Anatomy & Physiology - 8 (Starting A&P 1 this semester, A&P 2 next semester)

English Comp I - 3 (Completed)

English Literature - 3 (Not yet taken)

Government - 6 (Starting U.S. and Texas both this semester)

US History - 6 (Not yet taken)

Psychology - 3 (Completed)

Growth & Development - 3 (Starting this semester)

Statistics - 3 (Not yet taken)

Visual & Performing Arts - 3 (Not yet taken)

So that's my list. If anyone can answer those 2 questions, and/or give any advice or tips for the road I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!
