I'm trying to decide between several programs and would like some feedback on your experiences within Columbia's nurse anesthesia program?
Are you taught under a restrictive practice or are you taught how to be autonomous practitioners? Do you get to do nerve blocks, regionals etc.?
How are the preceptors? How are the profs.? Do you feel the faculty/administration is supportive? Does anyone wish they chose a different program instead? If so why?
Obviously no program is 100% perfect but the best information all of us future SRNA's can obtain is from those of you who are currently (or who have recently) going/gone through it.
Thank you VERY much for any input! Also feel free to PM me!

Hey I'm in my first year at Columbia and have been very happy with my experience thus far. The program is appropriately challenging, and the faculty are supportive and want us all to succeed. I haven't started clinical yet but have heard from senior students that the preceptors are very knowledgeable and that most of them are easy to get along with.
We are taught to be autonomous practitioners and are encouraged to be active in our state and national associations of nurse anesthesia. I will be learning all aspects of anesthesia, including nerve blocks/regional anesthesia. All SRNA graduates are required to have experience with a variety of anesthesia techniques, and based on the clinical experience I will be getting I'm sure I will have no problem exceeding the minimum requirements.
Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions!

I am planning on entering the ETP Nurse Anesthesia program this May 2012. Is anyone is willing to talk to me about their experience at Columbia?
Thank you!
