Any CNM's doing home births or have a birth center in Florida???

Published

Hello all,

I have been trying to find a midwife to precept with but can't find any that are in private practice. All of the CNM's that I'm finding in Miami, FL work at the local hospital. I would love to be a birth assistant to a midwife but how can I find one? I've found very few LM but no CNM's that are conducting home births or that have a birth center. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place.

My wife is seeking midwife preceptor in Miami. Can you help us get in touch with the ones you found? Please email me at: [email protected] . Thanks!

Check with your school to make sure what requirements there are for your preceptor. Mine requires so many deliveries in a year. Home birth CNMS may not attend enough to qualify.

Here is what I found: Our Staff is a birth center that has 1 CNM on staff...the rest are private ob/gyn offices that do hospital deliveries. I am not sure about Fl, but here in SC most CNMs do hospital deliveries (except the local birth center). I understand your aversion to hospital deliveries...I want to apply to Frontier and I know that when I finish nursing school I will need to work for a year as an RN and will probably be working in LD in a hospital. One of the main reasons I want to be a CNM is my personal feelings about hospital deliveries...alas, sometimes we must endure. Good luck!
