Any advice would be great!

Hi everyone! Im really glad I stumbled on this site and look forward to reading and posting as much as possible.

Ok here is my situation. I am currently 20 years old and belong to a local ambulance squad where I have worked my way from CPR certified to First Responder and currently 3/4 of the way through my EMT-B Class. I have been going on calls and learning as much as I can from the other EMT-B's and Emt-I's for the last year. With the end of my EMT-B course comming to an end I started thinking alot about what direction I wanted to go. After speaking to a relative, who has worked as an RN in Boston for the past 20 years I decided that I wanted to go back to college and get my RN as well.

I did however go to a college about two years ago and study environmental science for one year. I didn't really like the course and wanted to take some time off to figure out what I really wanted to do.

Now that I have figured out what I want to do I have looked at a few colleges that interest me. One of my worries is that the colleges I will apply to will look down on the fact that I left the other school. Either way I am still going to pursue this because I really enjoy it.

Any advice for a future RN student who will be applying for classes this comming fall would greatly be appreciated.

I don't think they will look down on that. Good luck to you!

some of the courses that you have taken at the college might be transfered towards RN. It's okay to change directions, please don't worry and talk to a degree counselor as soon as possible. Good luck.

You might be able to transfer some of the credits from your previous college towards a nursing degree, talk to a school counselor. It's ok to change directions so please don't worry. Good luck

Nawwwww. Don't worry. If anything it shows you have thought about what you want and have some direction now. It's really not uncommon at all for people to do exactly what you're doing.

If you had something like TWELVE schools you'd left you might have some issues. :D

I don't think this is going to be a problem. If you are asked about your previous college experience, just tell the questioner exactly what you have said here. Students starting out at one college, leaving and later going to another college to study something else is a very common occurrence and I don't think you will be looked down for it. People change their minds. People's lives change. Colleges are accustomed to transferring credits from other institutions that students have attended into their facilities--this is very commonplace. The ones who are going to question you, if they even question you at all about it, will the people on the nursing department admission committee and it will be during your interview with them. It is not unusual for nursing schools to see a good number of applicants coming from other professions and courses of study into the profession of nursing. Go ahead and apply for your fall classes--and good luck with them!
