I am a senior BSN student. I am expecting to graduate in May. I currently work as a nurse exter tier II at Methodist North. I would love to start my nursing career in pediatrics. Does anyone have any advice about Lebonheur Children's or St. Jude? Will I have a good chance with LeBonheur since I am already working for Methodist? Any advice from nurses at Lebonheur or St. jude would be greatly appreciated!

My Aunt just got her BSN from Union in Dec. and she was offered a job from Lebonheur before she even took her finals! I believe St. Jude is a little harder to get a job with right out of school because they tend to lean towards more experienced nurses due to the type of care. If you are a student at U of M I know several of the professors work at St. Jude as well as teach!

i think it would be easier for you to get a job at lebonheur because you can transfer within the system. st. jude has a very high retention rate, their rns are usually there for like a 100 years and when i check the site i never really see positions available. lebonheur is an awesome place and i think you would have no problem getting on there. i loved it when i did clinicals there! how long have you been an extern ii at methodist? i actually graduate in april and am currently looking for postions. i have an interview with methodist germantown for an rn position but wondering should i also apply for extern tier ii positions. would you have any tips or advice/info to give about the position?
I have worked as a nurse extern at methodist north since May 2010. I started out as a tier I and in my last semester of nursing school became a tier II and recieved a pay raise. I do not believe that you can just go straight into a tier II position without being a tier I first. The requirement for the tier I position is that you must be within a year of graduation to qualify. I don't think that it would be worth applying to an extern position since you are so close to graduation. I would keep applying for RN positions. Good luck with the Germantown position. That is my next choice if I cannot get a position at Children's!

I went into a Tier II position without being a Tier I first, I was hired within 6 months of graduation.

Thanks for the info! :) Do you know whether or not your aunt was able to start working at Le Bonheur before she passed her NCLEX-RN exam?? I heard from another blog on here that you have to pass if before you can start working but I would like to know for sure. Thanks!!! :heartbeat
Not true. You can start at Lebonheur and any Methodist facility as a GN.
