Okay, here I go... another job hunting question for all you lucky ones who found a job!
I have applied to all the hospitals in my area, with no responses. I am going to start at Nursing homes, however none of them are advertising. I am thinking of just walking into all the ones in my area and asking if they are hiring.
Here's my question (or need for advice) what is the best way to go about this so I don't look like a crazy person.
Do I go straight in without calling, what is the best "sales pitch" for me to start with....ect.
Any advice from anyone who has tried this way of finding a job?
Thanks,
Bea:)

Well, often Nursing homes don't "advertise." I now work in a hospital (ps: it's overrated), but before I started working in the hospital, I worked in a Nursing home briefly. What I did was look up the Nursing homes on google. Then, I called them and asked if they were hiring. If they said yes, then I'd go to the Nursing home--resume in hand and dressed professionally to fill out an application in person. It worked (i.e. I was offered a position) 4/6 times.

When I was looking, I just printed out a list, I went to each one and asked if they were hiring.
Some said no outright, did not even give me an application. 2 said they didn't hire nurses that did not have their BSN but gave me the applications, 3 just told me to fill it out. I got interviews with all 5. -_- It was too late though as I had already gotten a hospital job.

My place of employment had an ad on Craigslist, but I heard through word of mouth. Network with your classmates! Oh, and look your absolute best when you go in to fill out your application. Be ready with all your info to fill it out there on site & be ready to interview right away. I was hired on the spot & asked to interview on the spot too. Good luck! (By the way... Are you in WA state???? I had a Bea in my class... Wondering if its you?)

Worked for me! I dressed professionally, brought along resumes and just walked in and asked to fill out an application. The DON came out and briefly introduced herself, and left. Called me a week later, interviewed twice, they waited on reference checks and background check and offered me a job!

I mapped out all the nursing home/SNFs that I thought I could tolerate driving to. Took a day and drove to all of them filling out applications.
So told me they only hire from applications online
and others said they would keep my app for future refrence.
Where I finally got hired at they had the applications sitting out in the waiting area, I filled it out gave to the receponist. Was called a week later to interview and started 2 weeks after that

I am all about showing up. When I couldn't find a job at a hospital I stepped up my game and showed up on the floor I was applying for with my resume and cover letter in hand and asked to talk to the manager. If they had a human resources department I went there first and would talk to the nurse recruiter to see when they would hire next. Don't give up!! Keep at it!! Good luck!
