Hello,
Wanted to share my experience and timeline with the CA BRN.
In August 2010 I was pulled over for a DUI. Convicted in early 2011 with a misdemeanor. Expunged my conviction mid 2014 prior to nursing school. Graduated nursing school mid- May 2017. Submitted my application to the BRN late may. Heard back today in the mail that they will not be pursuing any disciplinary actions against me. I should be getting my ATT sometime this week!
In my application, I included the following:
1) My personal letter explaining my dui and what I have done to show that the DUI was out of character for me
2) Approx 8 letter of recs from nursing professors, preceptors, and previous co-workers.
3) Certified copy of the police report
4) Certified copy of the court records including expungement
5) Proof of my volunteer hours (over 400 hours)
6) Copies of awards (nursing honor society, and volunteer awards)
I was stressed the entire process, even before nursing school started. But I am glad I stuck it out. I'll be happy to answer questions.

Thanks for the info! I thought I was gonna have to wait a lot longer than 3 months to get my ATT. Some coworkers told me it took them almost a year!! I know this can change, but good to know it is possible to get approved faster.
My question is what do you mean by certified police report and certified court record. I plan on going to get the police report and court, but how is it certified? I'm also in California.
Hi @Nataliekorn,
If you call or go to the police department that arrested you, you can request them to give you copies of your police report that are stamped with their seal. They weren't able to provide me the copies on the spot but mailed it to me for free! You have to make sure the copies are certified or else the BRN may reject your application.
For the court records, I did the same thing. I found the forms online but I didnt want to risk submitting the wrong thing so I went in person to the court that I was convicted at and they were able to print my every document related to my case on the spot and stamped the last page the court seal. I had to pay around $20.
Good luck! I got my ATT only a week after my other classmates who didn't have to report violations.

What was you BAC? And does the BRN use this as a factor to deny or take disciplinary actions? I am waiting for my ATT but still no word from BRN or PearsonVue. My timeline is similar to yours except my DUI was in December 2010; conviction in early 2010. Graduated in June but submitted application in late May as well.
My bac was 0.14. I'm not sure if it gets taken into consideration. Did your classmates already get their ATT's? The holdup for us were the transcripts, once my school sent the transcripts, we heard back fairly quick.

I got a high BAC DUI in 4/2010 and am in my last semester of nursing school in California. I was in paramedic school at the time and had a probationary paramedic license for 3 years with random drug tests. I have proof of those drug tests and the court mandated DUI classes. Your story is very similar to mine so I'm hoping I can dodge the 3 years of RN probation. I've heard it's miserable. Thanks for sharing.

Once you got your ATT did you know for certain they had approved you? My application shows approved on the website and I got my ATT but haven't got a letter from them. I hoping it's not a probation license.
I just got a letter stating I am eligible to test. Not the same good news letter most people talk about so I'm really confused
