Anatomy and Physiology HELP!!!!!

Published

Can someone please HELP me? I am a nursing student and I am having a lot of trouble in my Anatomy and Physiology class. I know that I'm not stupid or can't get it and my study habits are good ( I think) but I'm having trouble, especially with the teacher I have, and I need some guidance. Are there any good and helpful books, study guides, flashcards or anything that could help me to understand better??? I'm in trouble and don't know what to do.

Thanks

Hi Sofia80,

I'm sorry you're having trouble with A & P.

Do you think you're having difficulty more with the Anatomy or with the Physiology or is it both? I had trouble my first semester in school and had to take it over again the following summer but took it separate. I took the Anatomy class and then the second summer session took the Physiology class. It helped me a lot. Its a lot of information to take in and I had a much easier time learning the anatomy first and then when it came to learning the physio, I already knew what structures they were talking about and just had to put the info together. Did this make any sense?!?!? (It's been a long day).

A few books that really helped me were:

The Anatomy Coloring Book -- by Wynn Kapit (Author), Lawrence M. Elson (Author); Paperback

and The Physiology Coloring Book by the same authors. They are both $14 on Amazon.com

I learn well with pictures and the coloring was also a stress reliever ;)

Good Luck!

Thank you very much. I go to two different schools right now and they don't offer them seperate but I will be checking those books out. It's nice to know that I am not the only who has had trouble with this. I guess I'm just really getting anxious and am doubting myself. But thank you very much!!!!!

Go to the Student Nursing BB and up at the top there is a sticky with a ton of helpful websites. Good Luck!

Thank you very much! I appreciate the help.

I make my own flashcards on 3 by 5 cards. I study those and carry them with me everywhere. Good luck!

I agree about the coloring books. They are excellent (if you actually DO them, of course).

If you would explain further as to exactly what kind of problems you are having, or what kind of help you think you need I would LOVE to help you. I actually tutor A & P students now and am a first year RN student myself. I loved A & P and feel confident I could help ya.....let me know on this board, or if you want you can PM me.....DON'T GIVE UP....;)

I used Netter's flashcards for my nerves, bones, muscles, and articulations....they were great!!!

Hang in there. I'm in A&P I as well. I use the Netter's flashcards and take pictures of the models in class (since we have no open lab time). A fellow student showed me a series of books that are excellent. Any A&P books authored by Elaine Marieb are really good. She is a nurse and wrote the books from a nurses perspective and I think that her books are broken down better than most textbooks. I also write all definitions on notecards and study those.

Any free moment you get, review in your head what you have already learned, especially after class because you will retain the lectures better. Also if you think it would help, get a tape recorder and ask your instructor if you can record the lectures. I don't do this because my instructor doesn't speak English well, so I can't really understand him :)

Oh and definately take advantage of tutoring services, they may know some tricks for memorization etc.

I am in A&P I now too. It is very difficult, but I am doing well (A so far). My best advice is study a and review the chapter you are on every day. And every weekend study and review everything you have covered so far (this really helps so you arent so over whelmed come exam time. I also copy the diagrams in my book, white out the labels, and practice labeling. Also try flashcards and writing outlines of the chapters. The more you write it, the more you will remember. It took me reading our chapter on muscle contractions 12 times and writing my own notes before I fully understand how it all worked. So hang in there....you'll make it.

Some good advice going on here, especially about reviewing everyday...YES! You absolutely need to look at your notes/books/diagrams every single day. Even if it is for just 10 minutes, it is better than not at all. I often looked at my notes

-while on the treadmill at the gym

-drinking my morning coffee

-in between classes

-right before A & P

-right after A & P

-laying in bed at night (warning: may cause a sound sleep:chuckle)

-and if we went ANYWHERE that might involve an office waiting room including a "wait", yep I studied them there too!

Also, I knew when I had really "gotten" the material was when I could explain it to my husband, in my own words, and he could understand the material. A lot of it was better understood "in my own words" rather than exactly memorizing, word for word, what the textbook said.;)
