OK, Lets see if anyone can help me with this one.

is it ok to give anaprox to patients with asthma?

I seem to be the only one where I work that recalls having a problem with it. has anyone else heard of or seen a problem with anaprox being given to patients with asthma?

Personally never saw anything. Just know NSAIDs are contraindicated with asthma .

Many asthmatics react to asprin.

NSAIDS should be used with "caution" in asthmatics (or any one allergic to asprin) because of their chemical similarity to asprin.

My Mom was a severe asthmatic and reacted to asprin. She was on several NSAIDS over the years for her arthritis, the only one that *might* have increased her wheezing was Orudis.

I work at an outpatient surgery center and our policy is any patient that has history of asthma does not receive Ibuprofen or other NSAIDS. I am sure that not everyone with asthma reacts to these products, but it is definitely worth being cautious.

Here is a brief article on the subject.

I would ask a pharmacist. Their understanding of drugs and reactions are second-to-none, much above even ours as nurses. Good luck mark.

I seem to be the only one concerned about it here:) I saw a patient a few yrs ago that had asthma and nurse gave anaproxDS to here ,she had severe asthma attack ended up in the ICU. I found it in drug book and it says it is contraindicated in patients with asthma and nasal polyps. I asked pharmacist and he said the same thing. I am sure not all people react but I think it should be given with caution. maybe I feel that way having seen a reaction to it

Wow Mark! i would be concerned, too. I have never given Anaprox to any of my patients, so I can't say what I would do. Good advocacy on your part.

I have asthma and have used the drug without any problem. I was lucky.
