Anaesthetic Nursing more info please

Published

Hi there

I posted a question on the OR forum and have been advised to post on this forum. I am interested in Periop Nursing and would like to find out more about Anesthetic Nursing and what is involved with this position?

Look forward to your reply :balloons:

Specializes in Surgical and Trauma ICU. OR-CNOR.

Having lived in Australia in the past and worked in the OR over there, I think that you are confusing what anesthetic nursing is over there with what nurse anesthetists do in the US. In the US, it is the nurses that give the anesthetic drugs to the Pt in the OR. In Australia, it is the MD's who give the drugs to the Pt's. Anesthetic nursing does not even compare to what CRNA's do over here in the US.

Australia and Canada does not recognize nurse anesthetists. Unless you move to the US and take all of the prerequisite courses, this would not work in the previously mentioned countries.

I suggest looking at the nurse anesthetist website to find out more about the profession. www.aana.com

Hope this helps.

Also, check out the 'stickies' on the top of this board and the CRNA board. There is a ton of info there.
